Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was a pretty dark sequel - often literally so - but a deleted subplot would've been a Jurassic Park-inspired kids adventure with a bleaker outcome. On the surface, the Alien vs. Predator concept should've been an easy winner, and perhaps a guaranteed box office smash. After all, it takes two of the most celebrated sci-fi/horror franchises ever and pits their respective monstrous villains against each other. Sadly, the "whoever wins, we lose" tagline proved unintentionally accurate, as most fans left the theater disappointed.

Three years later came Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, which purportedly intended to right the ship for the budding franchise, but instead seemingly put the nail in its coffin. Much had been made of the sequel's R-rating, leaning away from the first movie's PG-13 and back toward the original bloody franchises, but the result proved that more violence and carnage only goes so far when the script is bad. Not to mention when the lighting is so pitch black viewers can barely make out what's happening.

As is common for big studio crossovers such as this and Freddy vs. Jason, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem went through multiple script revisions on the way to the final product, as lackluster as it ended up being. Quite a few filmed scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, including an entire subplot revolving around two kids named Curtis and Kendra.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem's Deleted Kids Adventure Subplot

Alien Vs Predator Requiem

The Curtis (Meshach Peters) and Kendra (Shareeka Epps) subplot is definitely the meatiest chunk of material chopped out of the final cut of Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, but oddly, the reasons for this or details on the subplot aren't covered on the sequel's home video releases. Thankfully, the good folks over at AVP Galaxy compiled further info allowing fans to get the scoop. Interestingly, the original script for AVP: Requiem had a kid subplot concerning three siblings, Kendra, Curtis, and their other brother Leshawn, though the latter ended up written out prior to filming, and the overall length of the subplot was cut down.

Curtis and Kendra's filmed material saw them appear during Aliens vs. Predator Requiem's hospital sequence, as Curtis had injured his hand and was being treated. His sister Kendra was there for moral support. Then the Predalien hybrid monster showed up, creepily gazing at the babies in the maternity ward, a bit that did end up in the movie. In the deleted scenes though, Curtis and Kendra accidentally get the Predalien's attention, and the creature begins hunting them as they try desperately to hide, in what was intended to be reminiscent of Jurassic Park's kitchen scene with the raptors hunting Hammond's grandkids.

Curtis and Kendra hide in a closet and witness other events that made the cut, in which the Predalien kills a nurse and targets a pregnant woman. The kids escape in a car, with the older Kendra driving, only to be attacked from the roof by a Xenomorph. The siblings eventually join up with the main characters but opt to remain in town, and would presumably have gotten nuked when the bomb hits at the end. In addition to simply being cut for time, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem already had its fair share of child deaths - something of a rarity for mainstream horror - and the filmmakers likely assumed having Curtis and Kendra die in the blast would risk being too sad. Considering the mess fans of the two iconic movie monsters got though, the Curtis and Kendra subplot doesn't sound half bad.
