Rumors suggest that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is currently in development alongside another survival game based on the sci-fi horror franchise. Developed by Creative Assembly, the 2014 title sees players use their wits and an arsenal of futuristic gadgets to evade a vicious alien Xenomorph and escape the Sevastopol space station. Alien: Isolation managed to successfully capture the franchise's horrifying roots, and two future games might be poised to do it again.

Rumors reported by Insider Gaming suggest that two new sci-fi survival horror games based on the Alien franchise are currently in the works. One of these projects is apparently a sequel to Alien: Isolation, which has either just been pitched or is in early development at Creative Assembly. The second Alien game is allegedly codenamed Marathon and takes inspiration from fellow survival horror franchises like Dead Space and Resident Evil. Other details about this rumored second game, including its developer, are currently unknown.

The Alien Series Is Perfect For Sci-Fi Horror Games

While there have been many video games based on the Alien franchise, most of these titles have been more action-oriented sci-fi shooters based primarily on 1986's Aliens. In this regard Alien: Isolation broke new ground by instead embracing the tension, claustrophobia and outright terror of the franchise's original film. An Alien: Isolation 2 game possibly made by Creative Assembly could further build upon the franchise's survival horror potential, while also fixing minor issues that plagued the first game. Alien: Isolation is often criticized for its pacing, with some players feeling the experience overstays its welcome and slowly loses its capacity for scares. An Alien: Isolation sequel could also introduce elements from later in the series, like terrifying new Xenomorph variants or body horror elements from Prometheus.

Alien: Isolation 2 can improve and expand Creative Assembly's work on the first game, but the other rumored Alien game sounds like a more unique experience. The project will apparently pull from Dead Space and Resident Evil, two beloved survival horror franchises that have recently been resurrected through remakes. An Alien game with Dead Space remake gameplay could be incredibly exciting, with the third-person camera helping the experience stand out from the first-person Alien: Isolation. However, such a project would likely need to feature multiple Xenomorphs or add other space monstrosities to suit a more action-oriented survival adventure.

Alien: Isolation successfully transformed the sci-fi horror franchise into an interactive experience, and two more survival games may follow in its footsteps. Alien: Isolation 2 will allegedly let Creative Assembly build on the success of the first game, while another title will take cues from Resident Evil and Dead Space. Neither of these titles have been officially announced, but it seems that the Alien franchise may be gearing up for more immersive terror.
