Regal Cinemas is offering Alien: Covenant fans a "once-in-a-lifetime" gaming experience with In Utero, a virtual reality journey that lets you experience the birth of the series' iconic alien. The infamous "chest burster" scene that fans first witnessed in 1979 with Alien has been recreated again and again in the subsequent sequels and prequel Prometheus, with each film attempting to outdo the gory details of the last. 20th Century Fox recently released a red band clip from Covenant that proves the trend still has teeth, but director Ridley Scott promised to take that even further with a virtual reality tie-in experience that will ensure fans "discovered the true meaning of terror".

Now fans can experience the horror for themselves in an immersive virtual reality nightmare that's coming to select Regal Cinemas across the country - thanks to the aforementioned In Utero.

Regal Cinemas has announced tour dates for the exclusive Virtual Reality experience, which was produced in collaboration with 20th Century Fox and Alienware Gaming. Alien: Covenant In Utero is a 360-degree gaming experience, described as a "terrifyingly close and personal encounter" with a Neomorph at the time of its birth. Produced by Ridley Scott and directed by David Karlak, In Utero will give fans the chance to experience the world around them and relive the very first memories of the grizzly Neomorph. Chief Marketing Officer for Regal, Ken Thewes, discussed how the Alien saga was uniquely suited to the VR experience, saying:

"The intense action-packed nature of the Alien franchise makes it a perfect setting for virtual reality...Through our collaboration with Fox and AMD and Alienware, this innovative technology will add a whole new dynamic to the movie going experience for Alien: Covenant, and we are thrilled to offer this unique Virtual Reality experience."

The tour will comprise of Oculus Rift demo kiosks in the lobbies of select Regal Cinemas. These kiosks will be powered by Alienware Aurora PCs, which are specifically designed for VR, utilizing Radeon RX 480 graphics cards to deliver the most immersive Virtual Reality experience imaginable. As VR technology steadily grows, more and more movies are developing virtual reality tie-in experiences. Power Rangers has gotten a VR experience that allows fans to be come a Ranger themselves, while Steven Spielberg's hotly-anticipated Ready Player One adaptation will be following suit with a VR experience of its own, next year. Scott's eerily cinematic Alien saga however, promises a uniquely visceral and personal horror experience unlike ever before. The only catch is that everyone in the theatre will hear you scream.
