Guy Pearce doesn't know if Ridley Scott will be making a sequel to Alien: CovenantCovenant is the sixth film overall in the director's Alien series and the film served as a sequel to 2012's Prometheus, itself a prequel to the events of the original film. Pearce stars as Peter Weyland in the film, CEO of Weyland Corporation, the entity that sends the film's space-faring characters to their deaths. Covenant featured Katherine Waterston as Daniels, third in command of the Covenant ship and the film's Ripley-esque figure. Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demian Bachir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Amy Seimetz, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, Uli Latukefu, and Tess Haubrich play the rest of the Covenant's crew.

Taking place 11 years after PrometheusCovenant sees the crew of the titular ship awake from stasis and decide to investigate a mysterious planet that seems more suited for life than their actual destination. Despite Daniels' protests, the captain decides to land the ship. Naturally, things don't go according to plan and Alien: Covenant sees the crew picked off one by one various iterations of the Xenomorph. While Scott's two prequels proved divisive for longtime fans of the franchise, both were received relatively well by critics.

Pearce, who is promoting his new film Zone 414, tells CBM that he is unaware if Scott has any plans for a sequel, though. The actor admits that he wasn't sure if he would get to do Covenant, so any additional film would just be bonus. Still, Pearce says he keeps in contact with Scott and he is sure that if the director were planning a sequel to Alien: Covenant, he would know.

Well, I don’t know, to be honest. Again, I think with any of these... I wouldn’t have necessarily thought I’d get to do Covenant either! Who knows. I’m not in regular contact with Ridley, but we do have semi-regular contact occasionally. I’m sure if there is something, he would certainly let me know. He was very generous to even put me in the films in the first place, and we’ve always talked about how pleased he was with what we came up with.

While the future of the Alien franchise remained uncertain after the release of Covenant, it has now been revealed that the series will take on a new form in its next iteration. Noah Hawley, creator of FX's Fargo and Legion, is currently working on an Alien television series, one that will take place on earth, a major departure for the series. It is still unclear, however, whether the series will serve as a prequel to the original films (following in the footsteps of Prometheus and Covenant) or if it will take place after Alien: Resurrection, a point in time that hasn't been explored yet in the franchise.

Either way, a sequel to Alien: Covenant is certainly something worth exploring. The film ended on a major cliffhanger, with the reveal that Michael Fassbender's David had taken the place of Walter and brought two facehugger embryos onboard the Covenant alongside all of the human embryos. Daniels and Tennessee are trapped in stasis, leaving their fates unclear. If Scott decides to make a sequel there are plenty of avenues to explore and with Disney now owning the franchise, it doesn't seem out of the question that the director could eventually make a follow-up to Alien Covenant.
