Alien: Covenant's Blu-ray extras help clear up some key story points. Following the success of Ridley Scott's Alien in 1979, the franchise has been on a wild ride, from the highs of Aliens to the lows of Alien Vs Predator: Requiem. Fans had long desired to see Scott return to the franchise and the director had long expressed a desire to explore the mysterious "Space Jockey" seen in Alien. He finally returned with 2012's Prometheus, a flawed sci-fi epic where a group of scientists heads to a planet to discover the origins of the human race.

Prometheus ended up being more of a spinoff than a sequel, with the iconic Xenomorph not making an appearance. The reception to the movie was mixed, with viewers disappointed over its inconsistent tone and unlikable characters. The original concept for Prometheus 2 involved Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Michael Fassbender's android David heading to the Engineer home planet, but it later morphed into Alien: Covenant which was more of a direct sequel. The movie was still met with disappointment and suffered from some of the same issues as Prometheus. The return of the Xenomorph was essentially pushed on Scott and it shows, with the movie's depiction of it as a dim, screeching monster being a world away from the original Alien.

Alien: Covenant was also a box-office letdown but while Scott has reaffirmed his desire to round out the trilogy, there are no signs of a new movie coming together. Covenant also left viewers with many, many questions about certain plot points and events. Just like with the bonus features for Prometheus, the Alien: Covenant Blu-ray extras helped flesh out and clarify certain points. First up is Ridley Scott's audio commentary, where he casually clears up important plot beats, like the Praetomorph creatures being immortal.

After the first Praetomorph is crushed and its remains are sent spilling down to Planet 4, Scott mentions the beast will eventually reform itself. The Alien: Covenant commentary also reveals David wiped out two million Engineers on the planet and that these beings live for over a 100 years. The extras include various deleted and extended scenes that help add context, such as a short flashback scene on Earth with Daniels and her late husband Branson, which helps flesh out their relationship and Daniels obsession with building the cabin in his memory.

The Alien: Covenant Blu-ray extras also include the various short films that were released online before the movie premiered like The Last Supper - which includes a toast with the crew and even more of James Franco's Branson - and The Crossing. The latter featured Noomi Rapace reprising her role as Shaw and details how she and David arrived at Planet 4. The juiciest bonus is Advent, which revealed David's video transmissions after he took over the Covenant. Michael Fassbender narrates over footage from David's lab, explaining he wiped out the planet as a gift to Shaw, who was horrified by his actions.

Alien: Covenant "Advent" has David reveal he then used Shaw's body for his experiments with the black goo, which killed her. He further explains what this virus is and what it does to organic matter, as it violently rewrites DNA. David used the goo to creature his "perfect" creature out of Shaw's body. Now that he has the colonists of The Covenant to work with, he seemingly plans to create an army, and Daniels' will be his "Queen," suggesting he may turn her into some kind of Alien Queen. Of note is the fact he's relaying this information to Weyland-Yutani, suggesting this is how they first learn of the Xenomorph. Considering David's plan is to wipe out humanity, he seemingly wants them to bring the creatures back to Earth.
