A recently revealed Alien: Covenant deleted scene is far more violent and scarier than before. The science-fiction thriller was released in 2017 as a sequel to Prometheus, Ridley Scott's prequel attempt to reboot the Alien franchise he started in 1979 with the original Alien film. Following mediocre reviews and an underwhelming performance at the box office, Alien: Covenant proved to be the final film in the franchise for now as the planned sequels were delayed indefinitely.

Alien: Covenant is set after the events of the Prometheus expedition to the alien moon of LV-223, which left all of the explorers dead except for archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace). Through the use of an Engineer spacecraft, Shaw and her nefarious android companion David (Michael Fassbender), flew to the Engineer's homeworld to find more answers to human existence and the Engineer's suspected plan to wipe out life on Earth. 11 years later, a ship full of colonists navigate to the alien world to answer Shaw's distress beacon, only to find the planet's population killed, Shaw dead, and David roaming an ancient city. The colonists soon find out that David has been experimenting with an ancient killer life-form which he then unleashes on the crew, killing them off one-by-one.

An extended deleted scene from Alien: Covenant showing the deaths of Ricks (Jussie Smollett) and Upworth (Callie Hernandez) has been uploaded to YouTube by Video Dreschler (via AVP Galaxy). The new version of the scene is only seconds longer but contains a more brutal death for Upworth. A new unrelated audio track overlays the scene itself, possibly due to a potential copyright violation. Check out the extended scene below.

The scene finds Ricks and his wife Upworth relaxing in the shower after seemingly escaping danger on the alien world. Unknown to them, a second alien Xenomorph has burst from security chief Dan Lope (Demián Bichir) and threatens the ship. In the original scene, Ricks is killed and the camera then cuts away to hear Upworth's scream while glass breaks. The extended scene does not cut away and shows the Xenomorph use its tail to draw Upworth near and then pounce on her, forcing Upworth through one of the shower's glass walls.

The extended scene viscerally depicts Upworth's death, but most terrifying of all is that the audience can now see the palpable fear on Upworth's face as she knows that her death is inevitable. Upworth just witnessed the brutal slaying of her husband seconds prior, not yet processing the moment, when she finds herself at death's door in the worst way possible. Although the extended scene does not add much to Alien: Covenant in the way of story, it provides a finality to the character of Upworth by showing her demise onscreen.
