Remedy Entertainment's latest investor report revealed its AAA game project with Epic Games has moved into "full production," and it is rumored the future title will be an Alan Wake sequel. Several months ago, the two gaming companies announced they were teaming up to produce the next installments of Remedy's Control-shared universe.

The worlds of Alan Wake and Control officially collided together with the latter game's second DLC expansion, AWE. Before its release, the Alan Wake easter eggs scattered throughout Control were assumed to be mere references to the beloved action-adventure game. However, AWE's story brings Control players to Bright Falls – the setting for the events in Alan Wake. As a result, the narrative in AWE further entertains the idea that an Alan Wake sequel could be an outcome of the partnership between Remedy and Epic Games. The former had already confirmed it planned to make more Control and Alan Wake games in the past but hadn't provided more information on what that would entail. To add to such rumors, industry insider Jeff Grubb took to Twitch in March to say Epic Games greenlit an Alan Wake sequel, and that it should be at least one of the two in-development titles.

However, Remedy's last investor report (via Eurogamerconfirms that its "AAA game project with Epic Games has moved into full production, and a second, smaller-scale game remains in full production mode." It refrained from disclosing a specific title or designated franchise for these projects. Instead, speculation and rumors point to the AAA game potentially being an Alan Wake sequel. The original Alan Wake was released over a decade ago, so there has been more than enough time to build anticipation that there could be a follow-up at some point.

Alan Wake Rumored Sequel Is In Development

The same investor report confirmed that Control's "bigger-budget" sequel is in its "early conception phase," and this was a separate detail from the information on the two Epic Games collaborative projects. As a result, it's probably safe to say that the "AAA game project" is not going to be a Control title. Using a process of elimination, there are few other possibilities other than an Alan Wake sequel - that is, unless the partnership produces an entirely new game. Remedy and Epic Games will have to be the ones to confirm these rumors in the end, but the investor report at the very least revealed that a lot is coming from Remedy and its associates in the future.

Given how long it takes for games to go through the development process, the true identity of the Remedy/Epic AAA game project might not be revealed for a while. Those who are curious will have to continue speculating. However, the Control universe is being tied more closely together with each new installment and update. With that said, it's likely Alan Wake fans will have a better idea of what to expect soon.
