A remaster of Alan Wake has been officially announced for Fall 2020 following a retailer leak, and developer Remedy Entertainment will bring Alan Wake to PlayStation consoles for the first time alongside Xbox and PC. The game will retain its original gameplay with new enhancements to help it appeal to a modern audience, but Remedy hasn't yet shown how the remaster will look on modern hardware.

Over the weekend, an Alan Wake remaster leaked with an October 5 release date. The leak suggested the game would come to PlayStation, and it seems like most of that information is correct. However, Remedy has yet to confirm a hard release date. A full reveal at the upcoming PlayStation Showcase has been expected and it's possible that's still very much the case, but Remedy could have decided to tee up a smaller, preliminary announcement following the leak.

On Tuesday, Remedy confirmed that Alan Wake Remastered is indeed real and will be releasing on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC this fall. The game will come with all of its DLC include, new audio commentary from director Sam Lake, and the core of the game will be kept fully intact with new visual enhancements to character models and cutscenes. Although nothing else has been announced so far, it seems possible this could test the waters for the rumored Alan Wake 2 that Remedy is allegedly developing with help from Epic Games.

As of right now, Remedy has not outlined any future plans for Alan Wake, but has repeatedly expressed interest in doing a sequel since the first game's release. The developer was largely unable to make it happen as Microsoft held the rights to the game and didn't feel it could financially justify a sequel, despite Remedy's pitch. Remedy went on to work on Quantum Break and Control, the latter of which did directly tie-in to Alan Wake.

Remedy's undying enthusiasm for the series seems to suggest the remaster is probably only the beginning of a bigger plan. It's believed Remedy has started production on an Alan Wake sequel, which would make sense given how long the studio has had to think about a story. Perhaps Alan Wake Remastered will include some sort of Easter egg or teaser for a sequel, but it'll probably be a while before Remedy will actually be able to show the game in a proper format.
