A new Alan Wake 2 development update reveals new details about Remedy Entertainment's' survival horror title, including some creepy concept art. The first Alan Wake, released back in 2010, follows the titular thriller novelist as he battles a dark force and investigates the disappearance of his wife Alice. An Alan Wake 2 reveal trailer was unleashed back at The Game Awards 2021, with the upcoming sequel serving as Remedy Entertainment's first full-fledged survival horror experience.

While Alan Wake certainly has elements of supernatural horror, at its core the game is an action-adventure first-person shooter with some survival elements. However, Alan Wake 2 will apparently expand upon the first game's dark themes and tone with intense survival horror gameplay. While few firm facts have been officially revealed about the sequel, Game Director Sam Lake has confirmed that it will retain the third-person perspective used in most of Remedy Entertainment's past titles. Until an official gameplay trailer or demo, fans can only imagine how Alan Wake 2 will use survival horror to forge the franchise's next chapter.

An Alan Wake anniversary video, posted to YouTube by Remedy Entertainment, gives fans an update on Alan Wake 2's development. Game Director Sam Lake explains that development of the terrifying sequel is going well, but to maintain momentum the studio will not be creating a trailer or demo for release over the summer. The video also comes packaged with some Alan Wake 2 concept art, which shows off a variety of the game's atmospheric locations along with a disturbing witch-like enemy. Sam Lake reveals that Alan Wake 2 will stay fresh by exploring both the new horror genre and new emotional depths of the titular character, with these two concepts being intimately linked.

While it will be a direct sequel to the first game, Alan Wake 2 will also be part of the Remedy Entertainment Connected Universe. Most of Remedy's past projects, including the first two Max Payne titles and the Xbox-exclusive shooter Quantum Break, are tied together through subtle Easter eggs and references. However, the 2019 third-person shooter Control makes these connections far more explicit, with the plot of the game and its expansions directly tying into the events of Alan Wake. As the first survival horror game set in this universe, Alan Wake 2 will no doubt create brand-new bridges between the two supernatural properties.

Alan Wake tantalized gamers with its cinematic narrative and intense combat system, and Alan Wake 2 looks to completely immerse gamers in supernatural horror. While no major presentations are planned for summer 2022, Sam Lake assures fans that development of the highly-anticipated sequel is going well. Based on concept art and statements from Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake 2 will expose the best-selling protagonist to a brand-new level of fear.
