New photos from Disney's live-action Aladdin reveal the first looks at Jafar, Abu, and more. The remake is one of the Mouse House's latest attempts to give one of their beloved animated films another shot on the big screen, but in a new way. The live-action take features Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott in the leading roles of Aladdin and Jasmine, while Will Smith steps in to play Genie.

Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie and has only just recently started its marketing campaign before a May 2019 release. The teaser trailer arrived a few weeks ago and did little beyond showing some familiar locations and looks for its characters. While this strategy could be good for the start of marketing, many fans are eager to see more. That wish was granted earlier when the first look at Smith's Genie was released, and it appears that was only the beginning of the next phase in marketing, as several new images from Aladdin introduce the Agrabah adventure.

EW once again released the latest looks at Aladdin. Massoud's Aladdin is featured in a few of them, as is Scott's Jasmine in several different looks. One of the biggest takeaways for fans of the original film is getting the first look at Aladdin's pet monkey Abu, who is now a CG creation. The photos also reveal what Marwan Kenzari looks like as the film's villain Jafar, and even a glimpse at Nasmin Pedrad as Jasmine's handmaiden and best friend Dalia - an original character for the live-action take.

The photo of Jafar is particularly interesting thanks to what he is holding in his hand. He has the magical lamp in his possession, so this photo could be from near the end of the film when Jafar's wishes start to be granted. This will not be for the benefit of Aladdin's heroes, who are pictured together on more than one occasion in these images. Aladdin is still clearly getting into trouble and earning his street rat reputation. His journey into the Cave of Wonders was teased in the trailer, but now we get a look at Abu in there too. Unfortunately, there's no sign of the magic carpet just yet.

These images, coupled with the previous ones of Genie, help provide the best true look at Aladdin. The teaser trailer had minimal footage to begin with, so these photos actually showing various scenes from the movie is appreciated. One point of emphasis for the film and these pictures is giving Jasmine getting more of an individual story here, which can be done by fleshing out her own experience and life, such as with the addition of Dalia. Overall, it is nice to finally get a better look at Aladdin at this stage.
