The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi have created a problem for the upcoming Ahsoka show. The Book of Boba Fett is a spinoff from The Mandalorian, which launched the series of successful live-action Star Wars shows on Disney+. Ahsoka will be another spinoff, starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, first voiced by Ashley Eckstein in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She was introduced into live-action during The Mandalorian and appeared in The Book of Boba Fett.

While Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn't have direct connections to this trio of shows, it will have long-lasting repercussions on future shows. Like The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi follows a much-loved character first introduced during the original Star Wars trilogy. Ahsoka, on the other hand, will follow the much-loved Ahsoka from Star Wars: Clone Wars and Tales of the Jedi. But Ahsoka herself may not be enough to keep her show afloat when compared to The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

BOBF & Obi-Wan Kenobi Relied Heavily On Familiar Characters

Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian season 2 and Luke Skywalker in The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi both relied on several familiar faces. For The Book of Boba Fett, cameos included Krrsantan from the Star Wars comics and Cad Bane from animated Star Wars shows. The Book of Boba Fett episode 5, "Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian" was entirely dedicated to characters from The Mandalorian. Boba Fett himself didn't even appear. And like The Mandalorian before it, The Book of Boba Fett featured the returns of Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka.

Obi-Wan Kenobi surprised audiences by focusing on the adventures of Obi-Wan and a young Princess Leia. Leia's parents, the Organas appeared, as well as Luke, Uncle Owen, and Aunt Beru. Darth Vader was a major player and the show culminated in a fight between him and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan Kenobi even ended with a cameo: Qui-Gon Jinn's Force ghost. Though Andor avoided cameos, it was an exception to the new live-action Star Wars rule: there will be cameos by familiar characters.

Ahsoka Needs Big Star Wars Cameos To Work

Audiences will be expecting to see characters they recognize in Ahsoka. The show will finally continue the story of Star Wars Rebels, but many Ahsoka viewers won't be familiar with Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and their droid Chopper since Rebels was aimed at a younger audience. Ahsoka will need even bigger Star Wars characters to land.

It's all but confirmed that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Ahsoka's old mentor. Lars Mikkelsen will likely appear as Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was last seen disappearing into hyperspace with Ezra at the end of Rebels. Ahsoka was looking for him during The Mandalorian, so he could be a major villain in the show. And since Ahsoka is a spinoff from The Mandalorian, it is possible characters from that series and The Book of Boba Fett will return. Ahsoka promises to be jampacked with cameos.

Star Wars Cameos Mean Less Than They Used To

Ahsoka Tano vs Darth Vader on Malachor in Star Wars Rebels.

Unfortunately, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and even The Mandalorian have stolen Ahsoka's thunder. They have made cameos so common that they're no longer as impactful as they should be. Luke Skywalker's appearance in The Mandalorian was a shock, partially because it was only achieved with digital trickery. But the more this CGI amalgamation of Luke appears, including in The Book of Boba Fett, the less meaningful it is to see Luke at a previously mysterious time of his life. The same goes for Darth Vader, who becomes less foreboding the more audiences see him at vulnerable moments with personal foes like Obi-Wan and Ahsoka.

Cameos will be more necessary to Ahsoka than they were for the other live-action shows because it is acting as almost a direct sequel to Star Wars Rebels. It was always going to feature Ezra, Sabine, Hera, Thrawn, and likely Darth Vader. But now a story about Ahsoka and Anakin's relationship would be a bit of a rehash of the story about Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Luke could return in Ahsoka, but his appearance won't be as interesting now that audiences have grown used to him. Plus his appearance and any appearances from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett characters will distract from Ahsoka's story. Ahsoka needs to be about her, as well as the Rebels characters returning after several years. Hopefully, any additional cameos will still be able to pack a punch and tie the story of Ahsoka together.
