The Mandalorian director Bryce Dallas Howard says Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans will love the upcoming Ahsoka series. The series will follow Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) through the galaxy as she searches for Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Star Wars Rebels Chiss villain who disappeared with Ezra Bridger at the conclusion of the animated series. The former Jedi padawan made her live-action debut in "Chapter 13: The Jedi" of The Mandalorian and has since gone on to appear in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.
While she has yet to direct Dawson as Ahsoka, Howard made her Star Wars directorial debut with "Chapter 4: Sanctuary" of The Mandalorian and was able to introduce Clone Wars' Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) to the live-action world with her work on "Chapter 11: The Heiress," an episode in which Ahsoka was briefly mentioned by Bo-Katan. In addition to her work on The Mandalorian, Howard also helped to bring Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) back to viewers' screens with The Book of Boba Fett episode 5, which has only strengthened her directorial reputation among audiences. She's also rumored to be directing on The Mandalorian season 3, though no official confirmation has arrived just yet.
Now, Howard has shared a tidbit about what viewers can expect from Ahsoka. In an interview with Romper, she spoke about her familiarity and passion for Star Wars that grew from a childhood spent around George Lucas and Star Wars action figures. When Clone Wars came up, Howard used the opportunity to share what she could about the upcoming live-action series that will focus on the animated series' beloved character. What resulted was Howard sharing that Clone Wars fans will be "greatly rewarded" by what's to come in Ahsoka. With Dave Filoni leading the Ahsoka team, it's even easier to believe Howard's words about how Ahsoka will be received by viewers. Filoni, who helped to create Ahsoka alongside Lucas in the original run of Clone Wars, has been praised time and time again by Star Wars cast, crew, and audiences for his extensive knowledge of the Star Wars universe and how everything is supposed to fit together. His appreciation of Clone Wars, as well as Rebels, will no doubt make for a series that will deliver fully to enthusiastic viewers of each animated entity. Filoni has also been the sole writer of the 2 live-action episodes in which Ahsoka has appeared thus far, both of which have been highly praised by audiences.
Ahsoka has no set premiere date just yet, though it's reportedly slated for a 2023 release. Filming is rumored to start this month, which would seem to confirm the 2023 release window. The former Jedi padawan's deep ties to both Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) have viewers wondering if they'll get to see a younger version of Ahsoka in Obi-Wan Kenobi before her series premieres, though nothing of the sort has been confirmed or rumored. What viewers can likely rely on for the Ahsoka series is a follow-up to the events of Rebels and insight as to where Ahsoka was during the events of the original Star Wars trilogy.
