The upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka has a crucial role to play due to its unique ability to answer lingering questions left behind by other Star Wars projects. Though beloved, series such as Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian have left loose ends that have gone unresolved for years--in Rebels' case, these mysteries have been gestating for over four years. The Rosario Dawson-led series is one of the highest-anticipated upcoming Star Wars projects for this very reason, leading viewers to wonder what major revelations its first season will bring.

Ahsoka is confirmed to be released on Disney+ sometime in 2023, though its exact premiere date remains to be seen. Picking up after the former Jedi's live-action appearances in The Mandalorian's second season and The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka will be helmed by longtime Star Wars producer Dave Filoni, who is primarily responsible for many of the greatest mysteries in the franchise's recent history, having worked on Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian, and now Ahsoka. Due to Ahsoka Tano's popularity and Filoni's heavy involvement, there are several key Star Wars enigmas that may be solved in the series, which have been compounded by the fact that multiple characters from Rebels have been cast or heavily teased for the new show.

Where Ahsoka Tano Was During The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

Ahsoka in The Mandalorian and Rey in The Rise of Skywalker

Although Ahsoka was one of the few Jedi still alive following the events of Return of the Jedi, the beloved character is nowhere to be seen during the sequel trilogy, making it all the more likely that her fate will be explored when her series finally hits Disney+. The only reference that the sequel trilogy makes to Ahsoka comes in the form of a voiceover cameo by Clone Wars actress Ashley Eckstein in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker when Rey hears the voices of the dead Jedi of the past, indicating that Ahsoka may have died in the time since the original trilogy. While this scene does heavily hint toward Ahsoka's death, the franchise has yet to outright confirm the character's fate.

As the latest chronological appearance of the eponymous character, Ahsoka has the chance to fill in the gaps between Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Even if Ahsoka has died by the time of the sequel trilogy's events, which seems possible given her age alone, her solo series can give fans the details surrounding her demise, whether tragic or peaceful. More importantly, Ahsoka can finally give the character a definitive ending, closing the book on one of the most popular Jedi in Star Wars history.

How Thrawn Is Connected To The First Order & Imperial Remnants

Palpatine and Thrawn in Star Wars.

Perhaps the most exciting possibility facing Ahsoka is the inclusion of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the iconic Star Wars Legends villain and brilliant Chiss strategist that served as the main antagonist in Star Wars Rebels, as the new leader of the Imperial remnants. The Mandalorian revealed Ahsoka Tano to be hunting Thrawn after his disappearance in the Star Wars Rebels series finale, heavily implying that his fate will be revealed in the context of Ahsoka's unfolding story. Given his connection to the Empire pre-A New Hope, Thrawn is a perfect candidate to lead the early stages of the First Order.

Thrawn's fate ultimate has been a mystery ever since his disappearance at the end of Rebels, but could tie into the future of Star Wars television. Each series placed after the events of Return of the Jedi has hinted at a looming Imperial remnant that will one day become the First Order but has never revealed its true leader. It was believed that Palpatine created Snoke and had the one-time Supreme Leader bring the First Order into the fold, but it could've been someone else this whole time. As the most brilliant strategist in the galaxy, it would make perfect sense for Ahsoka to reveal Thrawn as the First Order's forefather, highlighting his significance to the franchise.

What Happened To Ezra After Star Wars Rebels

Ezra Bridger in Star Wars Rebels.

Ahsoka will finally reveal the fate of Ezra Bridger following the events of Star Wars Rebels. The Jedi Padawan disappeared alongside Thrawn in the series finale, jumping into hyperspace, never to be seen again--until now. Ezra's involvement has already been confirmed, with Eman Esfandi portraying the character in his live-action debut.

Given Ahsoka's placement a few years after the Battle of Endor, it seems likely that the show's events will explore her mission to locate Ezra with the help of Sabine Wren, who will be played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Rebels ended with Ahsoka and Sabine embarking on a journey to find their missing friend, which could very well serve as the context for the upcoming series--the catalyst for the overarching narrative. And, thanks to Esfandi's casting, fans can rest easy knowing that Ezra will be alive and well when his friends finally reunite with him.

How Did Palpatine Somehow Return In The Rise Of Skywalker

Zombie Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker

Ahsoka seems poised to answer one of the biggest--and most infamous--mysteries in the entire Star Wars franchise: the truth behind Emperor Palpatine's return in The Rise of Skywalker. Palpatine's resurrection in the Skywalker Saga's finale was heckled by fans for being underdeveloped and completely unexplained. Luckily, Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, and the other creators developing new Star Wars series seem intent on answering these questions, and Ahsoka is the best place to do it.

Both The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Bad Batch have included storylines hinting at the existence of a post-Imperial cloning program. This endeavor has repeatedly targeted Force-sensitive individuals, including Grogu, for its nefarious purposes. And, given Ahsoka's placement after both of these series, it is highly likely that the show will pick up where their storylines left off, answering how exactly the Imperial remnant was able to resurrect Palpatine.

While Star Wars has yet to reveal the intimate details of Ahsoka's plot, the many mysteries in the franchise all seem to be approaching their climax in the upcoming series. Sooner or later, however, the truth behind these questions will finally be revealed. Fans can rest assured that many of their lingering questions will finally be answered when Ahsoka premieres next year.
