Netflix has announced that the adult anime TV series Aggretsuko has been renewed for season 4. Aggretsuko has become an unexpectedly popular series. While the premise of the show, a screamo-singing red panda, seemed a bit outlandish, Aggretsuko has worked well as an anime and has even attracted viewers who usually watch more mainstream adult animated series.

Netflix confirmed that Aggretsuko has been renewed for season 4 through an adorable, seasonal announcement, presenting Aggretsuko's renewal as a Christmas present for viewers. In this announcement, Retsuko takes the form of "Retsy Claus" and wears a Santa hat and dress. She takes her place at the microphone and it is presumed that she is using her screamo voice to announce that "Season 4 is coming!" She is joined by Fenneko and Haida who are also dressed festively. Fans have since tweeted their replies to the announcement and most are overjoyed by the renewal. However, other fans expressed they weren't thrilled with how Aggretsuko season 3 ended and are skeptical about the direction the writers want to take the show in. Season 3 ends very jarringly as Retsuko is attacked by a stalker fan and her coworker, Haida, comes to the rescue. It appears the show is setting up Retsuko and Haida to get together, and their dynamic has been littered with romantic comedy tropes that some find problematic.

Aggretsuko follows Retsuko the Red Panda who is an accountant at a Japanese trading firm. Frustrated with her thankless office job, Retsuko copes with her daily struggles by belting out death metal karaoke after work.
