Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: FitzSimmons Act Casual in 'Self Control' Clip

[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead.]

In the most recent episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it was revealed that during the team's mission to retrieve Director Mace, many of the show's main characters had been replaced by Life Model Decoy versions of themselves, with only Fitz and Simmons appearing to be human. This means that Coulson, Mack, Mace and Daisy are all batting for the bad guys right now, leaving just the scientific duo to fight the good fight.

Tomorrow night's (February 21st) episode - titled 'Self Control' - represents the conclusion to the show's L.M.D. arc - and although this second installment of season four perhaps hasn't gone down as well as the Ghost Rider material did earlier in the series, this final episode before S.H.I.E.L.D. goes on another hiatus has plenty to cover. The Darkhold, AIDA's budding sentience, the Framework and the missing agents all need resolution of some sorts tonight.

In a new teaser clip from 'Self Control', the story is picked up right from the end of last week's offering, with Fitz and Simmons coming to the realization that all their friends have been replaced by androids. As the duo attempt to calm each other down and formulate a plan, L.M.D. Coulson suggests that the group should bring every Inhuman into S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ for their protection.

It's currently unknown as to whether L.M.D. Coulson has been programmed to act as his human counterpart would or if he's been given specific instructions by Radcliffe but the fact he wants to bring the Inhuman population together could give a hint as to the villains' master plan. It's also worth remembering that Fitz and Simmons have allies outside of the base - most notably Yo-Yo - who could certainly help them escape if contact could be made.

Although this most definitely isn't the first team S.H.I.E.L.D.'s two resident science geeks have been in peril, it's perhaps the first time they've not had their other team members waiting in the wings working on a rescue plan. It seems as if FitzSimmons will need to spearhead the S.H.I.E.L.D. counter-attack themselves on this occasion - something that viewers haven't seen too much of in previous seasons.

With that said, 'Self Control' certainly has left itself quite a number of loose plot threads to tie up and it remains to be seen as to whether the episode can conclude this arc satisfactorily. It's also unknown whether or not one of the story's several villains will step up in this final episode and take on the mantle of arch villain, with Dr. Radcliffe, the Superior and AIDA all vying for contention in that regard.
