The start of production on season 7 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is nearing with star Ming-Na Wen teasing the beginning of the next season. The ABC series was the first live-action TV show to be set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. focusing on a revived Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). The show has changed dramatically since then, shifting the focus to Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) and dealing with killer robots, time travel, and much more.

The sixth season of the series is set to arrive in May, but the future of the show has already been decided. ABC made a surprise announcement months ago that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was renewed for a seventh season that would consist of 13 episodes. The timing of the renewal was reportedly made so that the cast and crew wouldn't have to wait too long before filming could commence on the new season. There was only a small amount of evidence to back this up, but that appears to be true.

Ming-Na Wen, who plays Agent Melinda May on the show, is teasing that filming of the seventh season will begin very soon. In a new Instagram post, Wen confirmed that today was her first day back for season 7. It appears to have been just for prep as the day consisted of a physical and costume tests, but these steps do signify that cameras will begin rolling very soon.

The seventh season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is in the strange position of filming before the episodes that come out before it make it to air. It was only recently the the first trailer for season six was released and began to clue everyone in on what the show has planned next. Clark is playing "not Phil Coulson" in his return, while the rest of the team is on the search for Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and adjusting to life under Director Mack (Henry Simmons). With the trailer still not be entirely forthcoming about the next story the series will tell, it is even more difficult to know what season 7 will hold.

Thanks to Wen's tease, fans can rest assured that May will be around for season seven too. Even though Wen is the only one to confirm her return so far, it is also expected that most of the main cast will be back. Bennet, De Caestecker, Simmons, Elizabeth Henstridge, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward were all featured in the official press release about the renewal, but this is not a guarantee that they'll return. After all, Gregg was not mentioned and we know he is now back, but since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been wary to actually kill off main cast members, the whole gang will hopefully be back together in the next two seasons.
