Agents of SHIELD star Chloe Bennet promises the long-running show's final season will be a fitting end. Born out of fans' insistence/hopes that Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) actually survived his deadly encounter with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in The Avengers, Agents of SHIELD began back in 2013 as the first television show set in the MCU. While the first two seasons featured more overt references to the larger universe (especially through the fall of SHIELD, as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the series later began to deviate from the MCU and focused on telling its own story. The seventh and final season begins this week, and fans are excited to see how it will play out.

Agents of SHIELD last left off with most of the team escaping the present day for the 1930s as the Chronicom hunters sought to destroy Earth and rebuild their home planet. Thus, the seventh season promises to be a time-traveling adventure that looks to feature plenty of callbacks to important moments in Agents of SHIELD's history. Gregg, who once again plays Coulson this time around (albeit in LMD form), hinted the SHIELD team will visit multiple time periods. With everything going on, it's almost easy to forget this will be Agents of SHIELD's last season.

But it is, in fact, the end of the line for these characters, and Bennet insists it'll be a good finish. While speaking to TVLine ahead of this week's premiere, Bennet, who plays Inhuman superhero Quake/Daisy Johnson, was asked if the finale will provide closure for fans. She responded, "Definitely. They do a beautiful job at giving every person on this show a fitting ending. They do a really good job… but I don’t want to give anything away!"

Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Team

Interestingly enough, Agents of SHIELD already had something of a series finale back in season 5. Since the writers didn't know if ABC would renew the show, they fashioned the season finale, titled "The End" of all things, as if it was their series finish. While it did wrap up most lingering plot threads while still suggesting that the adventure would continue, fans were thrilled to spend two more seasons with Coulson, Daisy, and the rest of the team.

With the MCU expanding their television side through shows on Disney+, many have wondered if the SHIELD agents could pop up in future projects. As of right now, Marvel hasn't indicated they intend to do more with the characters, and Bennet herself recently debunked rumors that Quake would join a Disney+ series. Should Marvel not pull these characters into additional shows or films, this seventh reason really will be the last time fans see them. While that's a disappointing prospect, Bennet's assurance that Agents of SHIELD's finale is a good one helps. Hopefully, Agents of SHIELD will go out on a high note.
