Season 7 of Agents of SHIELD introduced a brand new Inhuman named Kora, who is revealed to be Daisy Johnson's secret older sister. The final season of Agents of SHIELD has been filled with surprises, Marvel Cinematic Universe connections, and the return of characters from the show's past. The most recent episode of the series went back to the Inhuman sanctuary called Afterlife to find Daisy's mother, Jiaying, with the hope she could fix Yo-Yo's powers.

While the return of Yo-Yo's Inhuman abilities was part of Jiaying's focus in her return, the rest of her role was tied to Kora. Agents of SHIELD introduced a new, original Inhuman during the episode who doesn't come from the pages of Marvel Comics. Kora's received Inhuman fire powers after going through Terrigenisis, but she can't control them. Jiaying attempted to find a way to keep Kora from harming herself or others, but the powerful Inhuman wound up siding with a superpowered Nathanial Malick. This turn hit close to home for Jiaying, as it is revealed that Kora is her daughter - making her Daisy's secret older sister.

Agents of SHIELD avoids outright having Jiaying and Kora call each other mother and daughter, making the twist a bit more subtle. Still, Jiaying does call her first daughter sweetheart and reminisces about raising her. After Kora decides to work with Nathanial and attack Afterlife, Jiaying escapes with May and Yo-Yo, who suggest that she should leave. Jiaying says that she can't do that because her daughter is still there, but this can't be referring to Daisy as she wasn't born by 1983. Yo-Yo says that Jiaying's daughter made her choice too, which can only refer to Kora.

Agents of SHIELD Kora

It was previously not known that Jiaying had a child before Daisy, so Agents of SHIELD's lead character has no idea she has an older sister she never got to meet. The reason that Daisy never met Kora is that she was dead before Daisy was born in the original timeline. This new episode shows Kora steal a guard's gun and run into the mountains to commit suicide, but Nathanial Malick intervenes and convinces her to join him instead. Since Malick couldn't have done this in the original timeline, the implication is that Kora did die previously.

Now that Agents of SHIELD has included this surprising reveal in the middle of the final season, it will be fascinating to see where the story goes from here. The set up of Jiaying leaving Afterlife with young Gordon to wait for SHIELD's call and Kora taking over the city with Malick hopefully means that Agents of SHIELD will continue this arc in the next few episodes. There is a strong chance that Daisy could be part of the family fight the next time these characters appear too. Quake is still recovering from Malick's experiments but could have the opportunity to team-up with her mom and actually meet her secret older sister. And since Jiaying tried to kill Daisy the last time they saw each other, Agents of SHIELD could give Daisy a chance to prevent her mom from killing her secret older sister and fix this broken family before the show wraps up.
