Agents of SHIELD season 7 takes place in Captain America's home turf, but where is Steve Rogers when Coulson's team arrive in the past? With the upcoming Agents of SHIELD run set to conclude the Marvel Cinematic Universe's original TV spin-off, it was perhaps unsurprising when the season 6 finale ended in suitably dramatic fashion. Quake, Mack, May and Yo-Yo led a mission to prevent Izel summoning her species through the monoliths and narrowly managed to succeed, albeit seemingly at the cost of May's life. Elsewhere, the reunited Fitz and Simmons teamed up with their friend, Enoch, against the Chronicoms, who see the Earth as an ideal replacement for their own destroyed home planet.

While the threat of Izel has seemingly passed, the Chronicoms are primed to act as lead villains in Agents of SHIELD season 7. Viewers aren't yet fully clued into Enoch's plan, but defeating the Chronicoms involves travelling back in time to identify which SHIELD secrets the invaders are looking for. Meanwhile, Simmons has to keep away from Fitz and isn't permitted to know his location for fear of ruining everything. The scheme might be a little convoluted but, essentially, SHIELD find themselves in the past and need to explore their own organization's history with a robotic Agent Coulson to gain a strategic advantage over the Chronicoms. Agents of SHIELD's final season promises to visit a range of different time periods, but the action begins in 1930s New York City - a location and time period that lines up perfectly with a certain Steve Rogers.

The SHIELD team arrive in 1931 and Rogers was born in 1918, which would put him at around 13 in Agents of SHIELD season 7. This comes before any of the events seen in Captain America: The First AvengerMrs. Rogers would still be alive at this time, but Steve's father died before his son was born. Bucky Barnes would almost certainly be in Steve's life, with all three living a relatively quiet existence in Brooklyn. In 1931, Steve was likely suffering from a variety of 20th century illnesses, struggling to make friends, and was about to attend George Washington High School.

Agents of SHIELD Season 7 episode 1 Coulson 1930s

Since Steve Rogers is old enough to feature as a character but young enough not to require the presence of Chris Evans, what are Cap's chances of helping out Coulson and the gang when Agents of SHIELD returns? Agents of SHIELD has enjoyed a mixed relationship with the wider MCU, sometimes merging directly with the film franchise, and other times completely ignoring major developments. For the final season, however, showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen has promised genuine MCU connections, which makes an appearance from Steve Rogers far more likely. Moreover, Cap himself has now been written out of the franchise thanks to Avengers: Endgame.

This means the character could make a cameo using a different, younger actor without treading on the movies' toes. Perhaps an ever-plucky Rogers tries to help the SHIELD team out of a jam, or maybe Coulson offers some words of encouragement to a bullied and disheartened young Captain America. Certainly, it would be odd for Agents of SHIELD to land in Steve Roger's city and time period and not at least reference the Marvel superhero.
