Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 premieres May 2019 on ABC, as confirmed by a new Valentine's Day promo featuring the main characters. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. initially premiered back in 2013 as the first TV spinoff from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ostensibly an offshoot of 2012's The Avengers, the series followed Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) after being resurrected following his death at the hands of Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Coulson assembled a team of agents who grew to include May (Ming-Na Wen), Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), Fitz (Iain de Caestecker), Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), Mack (Henry Simmons), Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) and Deke (Jeff Ward).
The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 finale saw the team save the world from certain destruction, but they also made certain sacrifices. Fitz died - though the team set off on a journey to bring him back (sort of) - and Coulson's death couldn't be prevented. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 trailer revealed Coulson will be back, in a manner of speaking, as Gregg returns to the series as "not Coulson." Fans of the show are no doubt eager to see what's next for this particular group of characters, and they were dismayed when it was initially announced the series wouldn't return until mid-2019, rather than Fall 2018. Now, at least, we know when the agents will be back.
Despite previous reports that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 would premiere in July 2019, a new Valentine's Day promo released on the show's official Twitter confirms it will return in May 2019. Although a specific date is not revealed, the May window being used in official marketing means more info should be just around the corner. Watch the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC has already renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. through season 7, though both season 6 and 7 will be shorter than the series' previous outings. Still, that gives fans plenty more time with these characters. It also gives the show's writers time to continue and potentially wrap up loose story threads from past Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. seasons. We know season 6 will feature the team searching for the version of Fitz who put himself into a cryo-freeze chamber and shot himself into space to meet up with his friends in the future (it was that future Fitz who died at the end of season 5). Further, the team will also have to deal with the appearance of someone or something that looks like Coulson, and the mystery of who that is will be explored in season 6.
As for what season 7 will entail, that remains to be seen. Fans would no doubt love to see Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider return, or see the agents crossover with another property set within the MCU. But for now, fans can only speculate about what Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 7 will be about. At least, though this latest Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. promo doesn't reveal any new footage from season 6, we now know which month the show will return - and it's sooner the previously expected.
