Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Reveals New Mysteries in Extended Trailer

The extended trailer for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 further hints at the mysteries of the Marvel cosmos that will be explored this season. Fans of Marvel's longest-running TV series have had to wait a bit longer for the new season thanks to Inhumans. With that series now in the rearview, S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming back for its biggest adventure yet: outer space. The tag at the end of season 4's finale teased that setting, while the first S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 trailer offer a sneak peek at the Agents themselves protecting Earth from intergalactic threats.

Among the new characters in S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 is Flint, a NuHuman from the world of Marvel Comics. The show will also be bringing back the Kree, who has been a key part of the series' mythology for several seasons now. Those won't be the only aliens that Director Coulson, his team, and their newfound allies will face in season 5, as the extended trailer for this season foreshadows.

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 extended trailer (see the video in the space above) features more in the way of new character, while also showing the series' tried and true heroes trying to figure out what is even going on. Even more Kree warriors make an appearance here too, a few of them reminiscent of the Reapers that were hunting Hive back in season 3.

Additional clips from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 have already been released, further hinting at the new character dynamics this season. The heroes of the show have usually been the ones in the know, so placing them in a situation where they don't fully understand what's at stake should be interesting.

The Marvel movies have been exploring more and more of the cosmos, and James Gunn will be fleshing out the cosmic Marvel Cinematic Universe even more in the near future. Despite the fact that the films have yet to validate any TV shows set in the MCU, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't shying away from exploring similar material in season 5. Inhumans also touched on the intergalactic aspect of the MCU on the small screen, much like S.H.I.E.L.D. has done its fair share in the past. Placing the agents in space, however, should provide the show's writers with a chance to really dive into some new corners of this world.

Some fans are still holding out hope that the events of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 will be referenced at some point during Avengers: Infinity War, seeing as they will both take place primarily in outer space. That seems pretty unlikely to happen at this stage in the MCU's game, but there's no harm in a little optimistic (and wishful) thinking, either.
