Following the trailer release for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5, fans can now watch Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team battle an alien in a clip from the season 5 premiere episode.
In May of this year, ABC renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a 22-episode fifth season. It was reported that ABC intended on cancelling the series but renewed it for another season at Disney's insistence. The series would have returned earlier in the fall, but was put on hold to make room for Marvel's eight-episode first season of Inhumans. Airing in the same timeslot as Inhumans, the show's fifth season will take Coulson and company into space. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 trailer was released last week.
The clip from the 2-part season 5 premiere, titled "Orientation", gives fans a deeper look at an intense moment from the trailer that shows Coulson, Mack (Henry Simmons), Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), and Yo-Yo (Natalie Cordova-Buckley) on a spaceship, running from an alien. The scaly blue creature, which runs on all fours, busts down a door and chases the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents down a corridor, while Yo-Yo tries in vain to slow it down with an energy gun. As they reach the end of the corridor, Coulson bangs on a door in frustration. As the creature closes in on them, Mack steps up to take action. The clip ends before revealing what happens next.

Footage of season 5 from NYCC 2017 revealed that the inhabitants of the spaceship have labeled these creatures as "roaches." Others are speculating that the creatures are actually the X-Men enemy known as the Brood.
Fans are looking forward to the new season, which promises to bring something fresh to the series. The cliffhanger for the season 4 finale revealed in a shocking twist that Coulson was taken into outer space. It was later revealed that upcoming episodes will feature the Kree, the same alien race responsible for the creation of the Inhumans and Coulson's second chance at life on the show.
For the its fifth season, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has promoted Cordova-Buckley's Yo-Yo to series regular and will add a batch of new recurring characters that the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are likely encounter while trapped in space.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 premieres with a two-part episode on December 1 at 8pm on ABC.
