The Kree may return during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5. The blue-skinned, super-strong aliens have appeared on Marvel’s flagship TV project numerous times previously, most notably when a Kree corpse was experimented on to bring Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson back from the dead.
The Kree are also credited with birthing the Inhumans, having used Terrigenesis and a secret city on Earth to enhance human beings, to be used as warrior slaves, many centuries ago. The Kree were last seen during season 3, when two of their Reapers hunted down Hive (the possessed corpse of Grant Ward).
Now, Daisy/Quake actor Chloe Bennet has inadvertently instigated the rumors of a Kree return: a passerby, in one of her humorous Instagram videos, has been grabbing some headlines. If you look closely at the video below, an actor caked in blue makeup can be seen walking past while Bennet and Natalia Cordova-Buckley (who plays Elena Rodriguez/Yo-Yo) lark about between takes:
With the blue head and the long coat, that kinda looks like Michael Rooker’s Yondu, doesn’t it? It’s almost definitely not him, of course, since Rooker’s schedule is packed and Yondu is quite unlikely to suddenly appear on the TV side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (especially after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2). Nonetheless, it’s fun to speculate.
Given that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 ended with Coulson in space, there’s every chance that all sorts of aliens will show up during season 5 of the superheroes-and-spies series. It remains to be seen, however, if the space stuff in S.H.I.E.L.D. will lead to some sort of Avengers: Infinity War connection.
This is the second time that the Kree have been in the news of late. Last month, Marvel Cinematic Universe overlord Kevin Feige confirmed that the 1990s-set Captain Marvel movie will feature the Kree-Skrull war, a legendary conflict from the comics which pitted the tough-as-nails Kree against some sneaky shape-shifters known as the Skrulls.
It remains to be seen how large a role the Kree will play in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5. They could be major players, or a tease of things to come, or this one guy in blue makeup could just be making a fun little cameo. Time, as ever, will tell.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 is expected to premiere in early 2018.
