Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has officially wrapped its fourth season, teasing an end to its current arc - while questions remain about the future of the show. Since the early days of the show, S..H.I.E.L.D. has added some interesting wrinkles to the MCU; from introducing Inhumans and Ghost Rider to dealing with much of the clean-up of Hydra and stopping threats likely unknown to even the Avengers. During its current season, the show has crafted a number of intriguing arcs, including its ongoing storyline about an artificial world ruled over by a reimagined Hydra (known as The Framework).

While the odds of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 happening are decent right now, a fifth season isn't a certainty just yet. While S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a consistent ratings draw for ABC, it hasn't typically been a huge draw. Still, all involved seem confident that the series will stick around and continue to flesh out the various corners of the MCU. There's no telling what impact the remainder of the Framework arc will have on the future of the show, but we'll know more once the season 4 finale airs.

Maurissa Tancharoen took to Instagram to announce that season 4 has wrapped, via a video featuring her S.H.I.E.L.D. co-showrunner and husband Jed Whedon. Check it out below:

The video also features Billy Gierhart, who is directing the season 4 finale and looks to own an amazing light-up suit. Gierhart is now stranger to the show. He's not only been directing episodes since season one, but has handled a few finales and premieres already. His work will be on display in next week's episode, 'All the Madame's Men', which will also see the return of Sunil Bakshi. That episode will feature more of the villainous Madame Hydra, and may even feature the return of another fan-favorite character.

In the meantime, tonight's episode will offer a deep dive into the resistance led by Jeffrey Mace. We've already seen a clip of him re-teaming with Coulson and one of Simmons trying to convince the Patriot and Ward that everything they believe is a lie. The Resistance may be helping are self-aware heroes, but it's going to be a long, hard journey trying to convince them that their reality—and existence, in the case of Ward—is all fake. With the finale coming up quick, expect to hear more about the future of SHIELD very soon.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues with ‘No Regrets’ tonight, April 18th, on ABC.
