When your balloon drop fails, but you’ve still got your friends.

The stars of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. celebrated the New Year in style with a balloon drop fail - but manage to shake it off, all the same.
2018 is a big year for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The TV show launched in 2013, in the aftermath of Iron Man 3, and was initially little more than a tie-in series. A relatively lackluster first season led many fans to doubt that the series had longevity, but this year will see the show celebrate its 100th episode. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has always been big on social media, and this time round the team chose to ring in the New Year with a balloon drop. Unfortunately, as can be seen in the above clip, it didn't go according to plan.
Not only is this a fun video (one that was shared to the show's official Twitter account), it gives a sense of how far the series has come. When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. launched in 2013, Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson was the star. Now, he essentially shares that position with Chloe Bennet's Daisy Johnson. Notice that the intro here is shared between the two actors, signifying Bennet's rise as the series has progressed. Nowadays, her character is essentially a superhero in her own right, transformed by the Terrigen Mists.
What will the New Year bring for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Season 5 has launched the team on a new cosmic journey, one that has taken them to a dystopian future timeline. They're stranded on a future in which the Earth was shattered, apparently by the powers of Daisy Johnson herself. The last episode saw Fitz join them in this disastrous future, and his mission is to somehow save both his friends and the world itself. The series is headed for an anniversary episode in which the S.H.I.E.L.D. team must literally save the world.
Fans continue to speculate that season 5 will see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. tie into this year's Avengers: Infinity War. The film will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and S.H.I.E.L.D. has tended to tie into the biggest MCU movie developments. This season has started later than usual, meaning it will come to an end right around the time Infinity War hits theaters stateside.
2018 promises to be a great year for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Most fans sadly believe that this will be the last season, but if that's the case then at least it's going out in style.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns January 5 with ‘Fun & Games’ on ABC.
