A quick moment in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s New York Comic-Con footage may have teased the introduction of Jack Flag. Throughout the four seasons that have already aired of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the show has routinely been able to pull characters from the comics. The biggest one to date has been turning Chloe Bennet's "Skye" into Daisy Johnson aka Quake. However, they've also featured Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley), Deathlok (J. August Richards), Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki), Graviton, Absorbing Man, Madame Hydra, and more.

The most recent big get for the show was featuring Robbie Reyes aka Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna) in season four, and with season five rapidly approaching, it has not yet been revealed if the show would bring in another major comic character to the screen. Well, thanks to the footage screened today, we have our first hint.

Screen Rant attended Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s season 5 panel today at New York Comic-Con and was shown the first twenty minutes of the season premiere - read the full description of the footage here. Near the end of what was shown, a new character was briefly introduced, one that could be the show introducing Marvel hero Jack Flag. Here is the relevant portion of the footage description:

Next scene, we see another shot of the cosmic background, a slightly colorful but spectacular asteroid belt of sorts. And figure flies into frame, looking like Star-Lord. Similar jacket but a different type of space helmet. He enters through the door from space and activates something to land on the floor.

Jack Flag looking behind him in Marvel comics

Jack Flag is an easy-to-spot character in the comics thanks to his signature red, white and blue hair, but that is not the case for this character, who has short black hair instead. Considering Marvel has changed up the looks of a few characters before, making Jack look less cartoonish for live-action would be easily understandable - if this character is indeed Jack Flag. After all, the Star-Lord comparison is one that doesn't fit many characters, as Flag's mask is noticeably similar in the comics.

For those unfamiliar with Jack Harrison aka Jack Flag, he is a character that has bounced around Marvel comics looking for a home. His look and codename were decided by him with Captain America in mind, and worked with him several times throughout the years. However, following the first Civil War in the comics, he was left paralyzed, became a prisoner in the Negative Zone, and then became a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy for a while. With S.H.I.E.L.D. spending at least part of the season in space, introducing Jack Flag - who has made more of an impact in the cosmos - would be an interesting get.

As noted before, S.H.I.E.L.D. has typically brought one major comic book character into each new season. Season 2 brought fans both Quake and Mockingbird, season 3 introduced now season-regular Yo-Yo, and season 4 brought Ghost Rider and The Patriot (Jason O'Mara). So far, there has yet to be an announcement of a new comic character coming to season 5, but Jeff Ward was previously cast in a major recurring role. While his role has been kept a secret, he was described as a “magnetic, soft-spoken, and charismatic guy.” The character shown in the footage with dark hair just like Ward, but it is impossible to know for sure since his face was not shown. This is however just a theory at this point, so we will have to wait on official word from Marvel before finding out if this is indeed Jack Flag.
