Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Characters Sorted Into Hogwarts Houses

Agents of SHIELD Cast Season 6

When Daisy Johnson first joined the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., she jokingly referred to their training Academy as S.H.I.E.L.D. Hogwarts. She never got to attend the Academy on the show, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t figure out just where the Sorting Hat would have placed her in an actual S.H.I.E.L.D. Hogwarts.

Harry Potter’s Hogwarts featured four houses for students. For those who need a refresher, they’re Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Gryffindor is an ideal house for heroes. It’s where the bold and the righteous usually end up. Ravenclaw is a great fit for researchers. Those who crave knowledge land there. Hufflepuff is for those who focus on fairness. A Hufflepuff also isn’t afraid of a whole lot of hard work. In Slytherin, students are ambitious and proud. They also happen to be incredibly cunning.

As fans can imagine, Slytherin is actually an excellent House for S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who wind up as spies, but Hufflepuff has a surprisingly big turnout.

10 Melinda May: Hufflepuff

Melinda May Agents Of SHIELD Hufflepuff

Melinda May is actually a very well rounded agent. She has a lot of traits that could land her in any Hogwarts house. Like a Gryffindor, she’s brave and just. Similar to a Slytherin, she’s an excellent liar and manipulator, but she lacks the ambition. Like a Ravenclaw, she’s excellent at putting together the pieces that others miss. After all, she did assemble the original S.H.I.E.L.D. team for the series herself.

In truth though, May fits most neatly into Hufflepuff. Her loyalty fuels her. May only put together the initial team and joined it to keep an eye on the person she cared about most in the world - Phil Coulson. She’s loyal to her team, willing to throw any other agent under the bus if it means keeping them safe. May is also willing to take on all of the hard work herself so no one else has to shoulder impossible burdens.

9 Jemma Simmons: Ravenclaw

Jemma Simmons Agents Of SHIELD Ravenclaw

Jemma Simmons might be the easiest agent to sort. She did declare herself a Ravenclaw in a recent episode of the series. Jemma has always been fueled by curiosity. As a child, she studied the stars and the insects around her family home. Now as an adult, she gets the chance to learn about the beings that live beyond the stars she could see.

Like May, she embodies traits of many houses, especially the cunning and ambition of a Slytherin. She’s proved herself adept at using her knowledge to manipulate events to her advantage. With that quest for knowledge providing the foundation of her character though, the best fit is the house she chose for herself.

8 Leo Fitz: Ravenclaw

Leo Fitz Agents Of SHIELD Ravenclaw

Leo Fitz might be one of the bravest and most loyal characters on the show. He would be a great fit for either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.

Fitz’s loyalty, full stop, is to Jemma first. It always has been. He will choose her life over the fate of the entire world given the chance. Likewise, his bravery comes from his need to protect her, and by extension, the rest of their team. If given a choice, he’d choose to be in the same house as her.

That’s why it seems more likely that the Sorting Hat would direct him to the thing the two of them have in common: their curiosity about the universe. Fitz has spent most of his life creating new pieces of technology, improving on old ones, and he’s worked with biochemist Simmons enough to even have a working knowledge of her discipline. Ravenclaw is where he belongs.

7 Daisy Johnson: Slytherin

Daisy Johnson Agents Of SHIELD Slytherin

Daisy as a Slytherin is likely a controversial choice for some fans. If the Harry Potter series taught fans anything, it’s that most Slytherins go bad. The truth is that a lot of Slytherin traits are needed to be a successful spy though, and that doesn’t make a character a bad person.

When fans first met Daisy as Skye in the pilot, she seemed earnest and excited about meeting a real hero, but her first act was swiping his ID and making vague comments about him online. She worked her way into S.H.I.E.L.D. without telling anyone the truth about why she was really there. Her greatest ambition? To find a family and a place where she belonged. S.H.I.E.L.D. gave that to her.

6 Lance Hunter: Hufflepuff

Lance Hunter Agents Of SHIELD Hufflepuff

It might seem strange to have a former mercenary sorted into Hufflepuff, but Lance Hunter isn’t as tough as he looks. He claimed to hold no allegiances and only want a paycheck when the audience first met him, but he very quickly made S.H.I.E.L.D. his family.

Much like Hunter claiming to hate his ex-wife Bobbi Morse, a lot of his talk about being in it for himself is posturing. Despite his line of work, Hunter has a strict policy about honesty and he stands by his friends in any situation. He found himself disavowed by S.H.I.E.L.D. in season three, but he returned in season five to help out Fitz. Hunter knew the risks and the likelihood of getting caught, but the Hufflepuff in him wouldn’t let him abandon Fitz in his time of need.

5 Bobbi Morse: Slytherin

Bobbi Morse Agents Of SHIELD Slytherin

It’s interesting that Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse find a way to make their relationship work. With Hunter as a Hufflepuff and Bobbi as a Slytherin, it’s no wonder they butt heads.

Bobbi’s Slytherin nature makes her one of the best spies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No cover identity is too difficult for her. She can live and breathe a cover for years if necessary. It’s that very ability that means she does a lot of lying - and can complicate the relationships in her life. It’s a good thing she uses her abilities to help out those in need or she’d really burn a lot of bridges.

4 Alphonso Mackenzie: Hufflepuff

Alphonso Mackenzie Agents of SHIELD Hufflepuff

When it comes to sorting into houses, season six Director Mackenzie is actually a lot like Lance Hunter. He spent a lot of time lamenting the state of S.H.I.E.L.D. and wanting out when he first joined Coulson’s team.

Mack has never been shy about his problems with S.H.I.E.L.D. He hated being part of a shadowy organization that seemed to cause more trouble than do good. That being said, every time he had the opportunity to walk away, he came back. Mack isn’t one to abandon the people he cares about or give up when things get hard. He gets the job done, even if he does a little complaining along the way.

3 Elena Rodriguez: Gryffindor

Elena Rodriguez Agents Of SHIELD Gryffindor

Despite being a group of near superheroes, not many Gryffindors seem to fill the S.H.I.E.L.D. ranks. Elena Rodriguez is one of the few - and the only one amongst these 10.

When Elena first went through Terrigenesis, she didn’t run from her power. Instead, she saw it as a gift and immediately figured out how to use it. There was no holding back or running away like we’ve seen from most Inhumans. Elena has also continually shown herself to jump into action, making the tough calls while everyone else is still busy forming a plan. She left her home behind and joined an organization to help the entire world when other people in her position just wanted to live their own lives.

2 Grant Ward: Hufflepuff

Grant Ward Agents Of SHIELD Hufflepuff

Because Grant Ward revealed himself as a S.H.I.E.L.D. traitor in season one, some fans are quick to sort him into Slytherin. The truth is, Ward’s duplicity comes from a place of loyalty, not a place of ambition or cunning.

When the audience first met Ward, he seemed like the model agent. That’s because he was undercover for Hydra. Ward’s loyalty, however, didn’t belong to Hydra, but to the man who trained him, John Garrett. He never wavered in following Garrett’s orders and did whatever it took to get the job done. When he lost Garrett, Ward lost a bit of himself and floundered in his place in Hydra. It was only then that he decided to create his own new version of the organization, and he only did that by offering his loyalty up to a select few.

1 Phil Coulson: Slytherin

Phil Coulson Agents Of SHIELD Slytherin

Phil Coulson is undoubtedly brave, loyal, and intelligent. Those traits belong to a lot of other Hogwarts houses, but he ultimately belongs in Slytherin. Coulson is, like Bobbi and Daisy, proof that Slytherins can use their abilities for good.

Though Captain Marvel shows audiences that Coulson was a pretty idealistic S.H.I.E.L.D. recruit, it also shows us his cunning nature. He went against orders on his first big mission in the field, following his gut and lying to his superiors. That is how he’s always operated on the series as well. He’s quick to have backup plans for his original plans that involve manipulation and lies to get the job done. He even used his own skills to give Daisy a power boost in season five, allowing her to think he’d let her save his life until the last moment. Like Daisy, his ambition appears to be the leader of his own found family, and S.H.I.E.L.D. gave him that.
