Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Cast Don't Believe FitzSimmons is Cursed

Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons and Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz in Agents of Shield season 4

The two-part season 5 premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stranded Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team in space, but it appears that Fitz (Iain DeCaestecker) is still on Earth. His separation from Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) has brought back talk of "the curse" that keeps them apart. However, the cast of the show don't believe that FitzSimmons is cursed.

In the season 4 finale, Coulson and his team were captured by mysterious assailants at a diner. During the two-part premiere of season 5, titled "Orientation," Coulson and his team found themselves trapped on a space station with bloodthirsty, bug-like aliens. It was later discovered that they were actually in the far-distant future. The only key member of Coulson's team to miss out on the adventure is Fitz, who wasn't taken into space with them. The separation reminded Simmons of Fitz's belief that the pair are cursed, and that the universe is against them.

Hypable spoke to the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and asked them for their thoughts on the FitzSimmons curse. Showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, DeCaestecker, Gregg, Henstridge, Bennet, and Ming-Na Wen all insist that the two are not cursed. According to DeCaestecker, Fitz and Simmons aren't cursed because they always find a way back to each other.

They’ve faced some real tough s**t. But no, I think the reason they’re not cursed is because often, through it all, they manage to find a way through it together. And they don’t work as well separately as they to do together — they kind of complete each other when they’re together. That sounds really cheesy doesn’t it!

We know from the season premiere that despite Fitz's absence, the character will play an active role in the currently unfolding storyline. An old postcard on Virgil's body revealed a message from Fitz: "Working on it." It seems only logical that it will be Fitz who spearheads the rescue of Coulson's team, especially since it was he who developed the plan to save Simmons from the alien planet in season 3.

A synopsis for episode 5 reveals that fans will soon get to see what Fitz has been up to while the rest of the team was sent to the future. Apparently, Fitz will be teaming up with former teammate Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) to save his friends.
