With most of the Marvel series now available to stream on Disney+, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. has made the move to the platform, giving fans who didn't watch live the ability to catch up on the series. While it was largely separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some of its storylines did speak to connections between the larger universe, just as the many shows of the Arrowverse interconnect.

Though not every character in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended up with superpowers or acted as a vigilante, its cast of secret agents has a lot in common with the heroes of the Arrowverse. It's easy to draw the line between the different franchise counterparts.

Phil Coulson - Clark Kent

Phil Coulson is full of quotes fans remember and is often compared to Captain America. He wants to do what he thinks is right and help the most people, no matter the personal cost. He has that in common with Clark Kent, too.

Coulson might not have the same superpowers as those heroes, but he has the same commitment to helping. He also gets genuinely excited about the things and people he cares about. He takes a whole group of young agents under his wing, becoming their father figure more than their boss. Clark has children, but he's also determined to teach them the same level of responsibility and moral fortitude as Coulson. They've even both seen doppelgängers from other universes.

Leo Fitz - Caitlin Snow

Leo Fitz and Caitlin Snow are both scientists, though in different disciplines. Their analytical minds and loyalty make them great teammates for a group of people going out and saving the world on a regular basis. They also have something else in common...

Caitlin Snow had dissociative identity disorder, which initially manifested in a personality named Killer Frost, someone who could channel her abilities and do the things that scared her. When Leo Fitz lived a life in the Framework, he left it with the virtual personality of The Doctor still hidden in his mind as well. Like Frost for Caitlin (originally), The Doctor manifested as the part of Fitz who would do morally questionable things that he was otherwise afraid to do. Those personalities ultimately took different paths in their respective shows, though.

Jemma Simmons - Mary Hamilton

Jemma Simmons doesn't stumble into the world of superheroes as Mary does; she trains for it as a SHIELD agent. But that doesn't mean they aren't alike. Both women are incredibly intelligent in scientific fields and end up as their team medical doctors, despite Jemma not having a degree like Mary.

They're also both incredibly excited to meet people with superhero status — and that excitement starts to wane as they realize the dangers and hardships that come with the "job." Jemma and Mary also end up doing undercover work without truly being prepared for it, yet still manage to make it out alive in their early attempt.

Elena Rodriguez - Oliver Queen

Though Elena isn't the team leader, her path to becoming a hero is a lot like Oliver's. They're raised in very different environments, but they both realize how the homes they love are being destroyed thanks to illegal operations run by powerful people. They both seek justice — and maybe a little vengeance — as a result.

Both Elena and Oliver start their operations on their own but eventually become part of larger teams. While Oliver selects members for his team and meets other superheroes along the way, Elena is recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. They also both find love on these teams with people who eventually want to stop participating in the superhero life.

Daniel Sousa - Ray Palmer

Daniel Sousa has a lot in common with most of the Legends of Tomorrow. Plucked from his own time and sent on adventures through history, Ray Palmer rolls with the punches, lends his scientific expertise, and helps fight the bad guys — while falling in love.

Sousa doesn't have a special suit he designed, and he ends up mostly traveling forward in time rather than backward, but his adventures are very similar as he teams up with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and finds love with Daisy. He might not be as in tune with advanced technology, but he does have plenty of scientific knowledge (he was part of the Strategic Scientific Reserve before it became S.H.I.E.L.D., after all).

Lance Hunter - Leonard Snart

A split image features Lance Hunter in Agents of SHIELD and Leonard Snart in Legends of Tomorrow

Diehard Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans know Lance Hunter isn't a villain when he's picked up by the agency. He is, however, someone who tends to work for the person who offers him the most money. Some might even call him a bit roguish. His sarcastic nature, and the fact that he lives by his own code regardless of what group he's working for, is what makes him and Leonard Snart counterparts.

Snart might be a villain when the audience first meets him, but there are certain lines he won't cross. He's also incredibly loyal and would do anything for the people he cares about, just like Hunter leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. .rather than outing the secret agents to another government, or breaking Leo Fitz out of a government facility when asked.

Bobbi Morse - Laurel Lance

Bobbi Morse and Laurel Lance both find themselves on the outside looking in at different points in their superhero journeys. Bobbi is in a separatist group of S.H.I.E.L.D., while Laurel attempts to become a vigilante on her own without being a part of "Team Arrow" to start.

Both women have a difficult journey that involves a lot of injuries, trauma in the field, and broken hearts. While Laurel's journey ends with her giving her life to help protect people, Bobbi's ends with her giving up the job she loves to do the same.

Alphonso Mackenzie - Felicity Smoak

It might not seem like the eventual director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Arrow's person in the chair would have a lot in common, but they definitely are more in tune than they initially seem. They have very different disciplines (Mack is initially a mechanic and Felicity, a hacker), but they both act as voices of reason for the teams that go out in the field, and end up out there themselves a time or two.

They also both meet their respective significant others because of their work. Felicity helps Oliver with some computer problems before officially joining his team and Mack meets Elena on a S.H.IE.L.D. mission before she joins the organization. They even both want to leave their respective groups to live normal lives, but continually get pulled back in.

Daisy Johnson - Ryan Wilder

A split image depicts Daisy Johnson in Agents Of SHIELD and Ryan Wilder in Batwoman

Daisy Johnson and Ryan Wilder both have rough childhoods as they grow up in the foster care system, searching for the truth about their biological families and ending up in trouble a time or two. While Daisy crossing paths with S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't entirely accidental as she wants to investigate them, Ryan finding the Bat-suit is, but they both rise to the occasion and become heroes and team leaders.

They also both find a family in the groups that they work with, forming connections with the very people they never thought they would. In Daisy's case, those are secret agents that she's suspected of hiding things from the public. In Ryan's, they're wealthy people and law enforcement officers who have always made her life more difficult.

Melinda May - John Diggle

A split image depicts Melinda May in Agents Of SHIELD and John Diggle in Arrow

Melinda May is just the pilot; John Diggle is just the bodyguard for a wealthy family. Except both of them end up being much more than that. Both have a history in military (or military-adjacent) organizations and are strong hand-to-hand combatants who are relatively quiet when introduced to the audience.

They both end up in the middle of incredible situations as a result of the relationships in their lives. Diggle's close friendship with Oliver inspires him to wear a mask and become a hero. May's close relationship with Coulson is what gets her back into the field at all. They both become mentors for young heroes, and they both continue their work even after their original teams have disbanded.
