Coulson's mysterious deal with Ghost Rider will finally be revealed in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s 100th episode. After a rocky start, S.H.I.E.L.D. has transformed itself into a constantly evolving Marvel property. Even without the big movie tie-ins fans have been hoping for, the show continues to do something new each season. That mindset took the team to space (and the future) in the first part of season 5. When it returns from its brief month-long break, the team will be back on Earth and looking to prevent the end of the world.
This is all happening as S.H.I.E.L.D. inches closer to its landmark 100th episode. Much has been made about the episode and what it will entail, especially as the show's writers frequently attempt to wrap up loose ends. One of the biggest mysteries from season 4 was the deal Coulson made with the Spirit of Vengeance that allowed him to temporarily host the demon.
EW has revealed that all will be revealed in the 100th episode. They describe the reveal as something that will "impact everyone on Team S.H.I.E.L.D." Considering the placement of when the show is deciding to tell everyone what happened, it would look to be a huge moment for the show, these characters, and the fans. This is exactly how Clark Gregg described the episode:
Fans who hope that a 100th episode will contain something that will be a cataclysmic event or a gigantically resonate event for their feels after 100 episodes will not be disappointed.

Addressing the deal now should come at the perfect time for Coulson. As revealed in the mid-season finale, Coulson is dying. Not only that, but according to future Yo-Yo, it is the team's continued efforts to save him that ultimately becomes their and the entire planet's downfall. Is the disease a result of the one time partnership? Or, will Coulson have to go back on whatever deal was made to once again inhabit the spirit, potentially healing him in the process?
Just like when the Spirit inhabited Mack and continues to do so with Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna), it only bonds with hosts that are incredibly desperate or who have a hidden darkness. For Mack, it was the death of his daughter that connected him with the Spirit, whereas Robbie's connection came from his want for revenge on those that "killed" him and paralyzed his brother. Coulson's life hasn't been too dark from what the show or his time in the movies showed, so whatever the foundation of this deal is could completely change how Coulson is viewed moving forward. With Gregg hyping up the reveal to this magnitude, we can only hope it delivers.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues Friday, March 2 with “All the Comforts of Home” at 9pm ET on ABC.
