Marvel's Agents of SHIELD came out with the best possible season one after the resurrected Phil Coulson took up his duties as a SHIELD agent, without knowing the circumstances or the reasons of why him being there is such a big deal. Let's be real, without him, Avengers wouldn't have existed.

The opening season of the show solved a couple of conspiracy theories related to Marvel Comics, all the while answering the biggest question - how was Coulson brought back from the dead? Season two shined the light on Coulson's weird behavior and here's how some of the best episodes from it rank according to IMDb.

"Ye Who Enter Here" (8.6)

In the ninth episode of season 2, it's all about the secrets buried underneath the storyline involving SHIELD and HYDRA. Anyone who has read Marvel Comics must know that HYDRA lasted generations and one of the main reasons for that was the fact that they had the resources and no one knew where they came from. In this episode, Coulson and his team find an ancient city, which might have the answers they are looking for but what they do not know is how dangerous this game is.

"Frenemy Of My Enemy" (8.6)

In the eighteenth episode of season 2, battle lines are drawn as Coulson turns to a man for help, whom he wouldn't want to associate with in normal circumstances. Grant Ward is the man, as Coulson and Hunter, along with Mike Peterson, want help to get into HYDRA. Coulson uses Agent 33 for bait, while Skye and Lincoln get dragged into this SHIELD piece of business. Skye is still learning her abilities and doesn't want anyone else to suffer because of her.

"Scars" (8.6)

In the twentieth episode of season 2, Skye is emotionally torn between which side she must choose. She was born to be an Inhuman and she must protect them from the world at all costs but at the same time, when she had no one else to turn, the SHIELD was there for her.

Honestly, no one would want to be in this sort of dilemma but it is what it is. Moreover, Coulson's dirty secrets keep on coming, some of which are really shocking.

"A Hen In The Wolf House" (8.7)

In the fifth episode of season 2, the chief of security for HYDRA, Bobbi Morse, is running background checks on everyone, in order to determine who is the mole inside their facility. Coulson is still scribbling the Words Of Creation on his desk and when Skye notices it, she is talked out of it and told to concentrate on the mission ahead. Also, Skye's father wants Raina to instigate a meeting between him and his daughter.

"The Things We Bury" (8.7)

In the eighth episode of season 2, Ward's character development takes a new turn as things from his past are revealed. He kidnaps his brother, who is also a Senator and makes him confess something, before killing him, his father, and his mother. This episode makes every fan believe that Grant is an absolute psychopath. Meanwhile, Coulson and the team are still involved in the war against HYDRA, with the history of the Obelisk in question.

"One Door Closes" (8.7)

In the fifteenth episode of season 2, war closes in on Coulson and his team, with some more shocking revelations coming to light, including the ones from the HYDRA uprising. Skye is still struggling to deal with her powers, but an Inhuman called Gordan might be able to help her with that bit.

This episode is high on action and the storytelling isn't bad either. This could have been another top-notch episode if not for substantial change in pace.

"The Dirty Half Dozen" (8.8)

In the nineteenth episode of season 2, Daisy Johnson, with Gordan, arrives into Afterlife, where they inform Jiaying about Lincoln's capture but the former doesn't want to send help, as that could be dangerous for all the Inhumans. Also, Peterson aka Deathlok is being experimented on at a HYDRA facility, while Coulson meets Robert Gonzales on the Bus and both of them need to work together with Ward if they are to overcome these dark forces.

"S. O. S Part 1" (9.1)

In the penultimate episode of season 2, everything is set up perfectly for the finale with every single Inhuman in danger thanks to Robert Gonzales. Jiaying is lying half-dead in her office and Skye isn't dealing with these things nicely. She is on edge, as anyone would be because she doesn't know who are the bad men and who are the good ones. This is a battle that blurs the lines, with respect to enemies and friends. It's an incredible episode, to say the least.

"What They Become" (9.3)

In the tenth episode of season 2, the start is as explosive as the finish, with Melinda May trying to save the Bus from a possible onslaught by the HYDRA Quinjets. Elsewhere, Grant brought Skye to a HYDRA base and introduced her to Calvin Zabo, his father, who named her Daisy. This episode shines a light on Skye's past and it doesn't disappoint at the slightest. It is filled with vague notions, like Skye having some sort of superpower.

"S. O. S Part 2" (9.4)

The season 2 finale is absolutely breathless. The war is still going on, with the lives of Coulson's loved ones on the line. He must not only find a way to end this thing once and for all, but he must also make sure that he doesn't lose Skye in the process because she is the closest Coulson has to a daughter. Wait, there's more, Jiaying wants to destroy humanity and she's willing to take out her daughter as well if it comes to it.
