Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Marvel Teases More Inhuman & Kree Reveals

Agents of SHIELD Blue Alien TAHITI

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned to ABC last week with its midseason premiere, an episode that dealt with the direct aftermath of the events that transformed Skye (Chloe Bennet) and Raina (Ruth Negga) into who they really are. Raina is no longer the pretty girl in the flower dress and Skye, who appears the same on the outside, is just starting to come to terms with her partly alien origins, a revelation that's already starting to tear apart Director Coulson's (Clark Gregg) team.

This is why tonight's episode could be even more important from a story standpoint since Marvel TV is teasing some major reveals and are bringing back Thor and Thor: The Dark World star Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) to help deliver them.

From the clips we've seen, Lady Sif has lost part of her memory in this episode and the true nature of her mission to Earth might pose issues for Coulson's ragtag remnants of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The last time she appeared, she offered some clues to Coulson as to the what alien race the mysterious blue body that saved him and Skye could belong to, and we've learned much more since...

That blue alien that appeared in several episodes of AoS is of the Kree, the same race of aliens that Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) belongs to in Guardians of the Galaxy. That was made official by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. producers in the first half of season 1 and made clear to viewers in the midseason finale before the break. Now it's time to learn about the Inhumans, the not-quite-normal Earthlings Raina and Skye belong to, and what the Kree have to do with them.

Last week's episode saw Agent Fitz refer to Skye's condition as "Inhuman" and that's exactly what she is. There's even an Inhumans movie on the way in 2019 featuring a roster of characters who are major players in Marvel Comics. Tonight though, thanks to Sif's knowledge, we might start to learn more about the other-worldly origins of the Inhumans and how the Kree were involved. We know this because Marvel is sharing some new blue alien pictures on their official site to tease tonight's episode:

The above imagery is what Marvel teases to be "a mysterious headshot that foreshadows some surprise revelations in this week's episode." As part of a viral marketing initiative, Marvel is teasing that there's a "double agent" on the set of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. letting slip little details like the above images. Fans can play along here and help decide what this leaker of information will explore next.

As for the Lady Sif poster up top, if you missed it, that's the artwork of Marcos Martin. EW and Marvel are bringing back The Art of Level 7 series of artistic renderings for each episode remaining in the season, an initiative they began last year. Take a closer look at the imagery within that shattering word "SHIELD."

Look for our review after tonight's episode. Sif is just the first of multiple guest characters executive producer Jeff Bell promises are on the way in the back of of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2. For more information on Inhumans and the process of these people gaining their powers:
