Despite certain criticisms of Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger spinoff Agent Carter, the series garnered good ratings and was recently renewed for a second season at ABC. In the weeks since its renewal, the network released a teaser poster for season 2 as well as an official synopsis.

The second season of Agent Carter will find Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) venturing to LA to fight "a more sinister threat", but other information about the series remains scarce. Now, Atwell has revealed the number of episodes that will be in the show's sophomore outing as well as other details about her character's progression.

During a Q&A panel at Comicpalooza in Houston, TX, Atwell said season 2 of Agent Carter will be 10 episodes - two more than season 1 - taking place in the "glamourous dark world of 1940s Los Angeles." Additionally, the actress spoke about the emotional arc of Peggy as it pertains to her grief over Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans) as well as her character development moving into next season.

Read Atwell's quote:

"She's grieved over Steve and she's now about to embark on a new adventure in her life. So she's in a much better place. So in terms of where she is, it's going to be a lot lighter for her; there's going to be more humor to her, more warmth. She's not struggling so much with her identity."

It's difficult to say how the longer episode order will affect the third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It's possible that AoS will either have a shorter season run or simply take a longer midseason hiatus. Another possibility is that ABC may double up episodes of Agent Carter as the network did for the series' premiere.

Agent Carter Hayley Atwell Talks Season 2 Angie Martinelli

Atwell didn't offer much more in terms of concrete information about Agent Carter season 2 - such as whether any other cast members will return. In season 1, Atwell was joined by Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, Chad Michael Murray as SSR Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj as SSR Agent Daniel Sousa, and Lyndsy Fonseca as Angie Martinelli.

However, the actress did announce at the Q&A that she will be crashing the Captain America: Civil War set in Atlanta, GA, at the end of the month. Although the actress has appeared in both the previous Captain America films, this trip is likely just to see the cast members since she said Marvel wasn't aware of her visit.

Whether or not Atwell appears in Civil War remains to be seen - she would be joining a hefty cast of fellow Marvel heroes, though as her older self, of course. That being said, given the number of photos coming out of the Civil War set, it’s likely we’ll know more about the nature of her visit later in the month.

Fans of Agent Carter will surely be excited to see a lighter, more humorous version of Peggy now that she is moving on from Steve Rogers. As hinted at in the synopsis for season 2, Peggy will find a new love interest, who may or may not be the man that eventually becomes her husband.

Additionally, viewers will be able to spend more time with the lead character in season 2 because of the longer season order. Plus, with the character’s identity fully realized, that just leaves more time for Peggy Carter to do what she does best and fight those sinister forces in LA.

Agent Carter will air during the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. midseason break, likely in early 2016.
