Aubrey Plaza is entering the MCU as she has been cast in the upcoming WandaVision spinoff series Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Agatha Harkness is continuing her time in the MCU, with the WandaVision character set to headline her own Disney+ series, which will explore the villain even further. Kathryn Hahn, who plays Agatha, served as the main antagonist of WandaVision, a limited series that saw Wanda Maximoff officially take on the Scarlet Witch mantle before going on to star in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
As Phase 4 is coming to a head with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Phase 5 is launching in 2023, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos will be one of the new Disney+ dramas to premiere later in the year. WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaefer is set to return in the same capacity for Agatha: Coven of Chaos. While no exact production date has been set yet for Agatha: Coven of Chaos, the series has begun tapping its first batch of cast members. Heartstopper star Joe Locke was recently cast in a mystery role, with many speculating it might be an older version of Wiccan. Emma Caulfield Ford is also set to return after WandaVision.
Following a casting rumor of her joining Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Variety has confirmed that Plaza will join the MCU drama. However, Plaza's character is being kept under wraps for now, which is typically the case for most actors that sign on for a Marvel Studios project. This will be the second Marvel TV show that Plaza stars in after portraying Lenny Busker in FX's Legion TV show, set in the world of the X-Men. The Illuminerdi first reported the news.
Who Aubrey Plaza Can Play In Agatha: Coven Of Chaos
While it's obvious that Plaza won't be playing the same character as she did on Legion, there is not much to go on with her casting for Agatha: Coven of Chaos. In a similar fashion to WandaVision's Dottie Jones, Plaza may perhaps portray a Westview neighbor. Although given Plaza's star-power, it wouldn't be shocking if she plays someone from the Marvel lore, possibly someone that has direct ties to Agatha herself. Given Plaza's past performances - Lenny especially - it would play to her strengths if she slipped into a magical, perhaps even villainous role.
Depending on if Agatha: Coven of Chaos films anywhere in the public, it's not impossible that Plaza's mystery character at some point gets spoiled through set photos, which has happened with previous MCU projects. On the other hand, Marvel Studios may put out an announcement themselves confirming who Plaza is playing to help build more hype for the Disney+ series. Even though WandaVision focused on her a lot, it will still be great to see the MCU continue Agatha's story as they continue to make her a potential power player in the franchise, especially as far as magic users go. With Agatha: Coven of Chaos getting closer to commencing filming, it will be exciting to see who else Marvel taps for the series.
