Jay White successfully defended his IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view and spoke about his future with All Elite Wrestling afterward. Switchblade needed to call an audible during the match due to an injury to Adam Cole, who reportedly got a concussion during the fatal four-way. Kazuchika Okada and Hangman Adam Page were also involved in the bout, making this one of the most stacked multi-man matches in recent history.

Unlike Okada and a handful of other high-end NJPW wrestlers, White was made available by New Japan early in the build towards Forbidden Door. He shocked many in the wrestling community by beating Okada at Dominion for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, and he almost immediately started leveraging his catalyst of professional wrestling nickname on AEW television. He's been a fantastic fit for the company over the last several weeks, leading to natural questions about his future with All Elite Wrestling.

When asked about where he stands with AEW moving forward during the post-Forbidden Door media scrum, White had this to say: “To answer your question, would I like to [continue to stick around in AEW]? I don’t know. Will I? I don’t know. Because this is how it works, I don’t have to tell you anything, I don’t have to give away anything. When you’re the champion and the guy who single-handedly sells out arenas like Madison Square Garden and United Center, you can kind of do what you want and show up when you want. So stay tuned, I guess.” (h/t to wrestlinginc.com for the transcription) White remained entirely in character during his interview following the pay-per-view, going so far as to chastise AEW employees for not properly setting up his championship title and forcing Tony Khan to apologize during an awkward closing segment.

Jay White AEW

It's hard to believe there'd be any bad blood between Tony Khan and White long-term, so it'll be interesting to see if and when AEW audiences will see Switchblade back in an AEW ring. His ties to the All Elite roster are numerous, and given the financial success Forbidden Door appears to have been, NJPW and AEW working more closely as the summer progresses is a real possibility.

White has spoken about his freedom to come and go as he pleases in NJPW, which allowed him to wrestle for AEW before the Forbidden Door build even started. That was before he was their IWGP Heavyweight Champion, however, and those responsibilities may prevent him from returning to North America for a little while. Of course, the NJPW wrestlers who were involved in the build towards this pay-per-view have been jet-setting for weeks now, and White is no stranger to traveling. He teased a potential match with interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley during the media scrum as well, so audiences might have that to look forward to some time in the future.
