Wrestling game All Elite Wrestling has just unveiled some test footage for its promising new wrestling game, with a little help from Executive Vice President and current AEW World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega. The popular wrestling promotion announced its answer to WWE’s 2K series late last year, even picking up former WWE game developer Yuke’s in the process

Details about AEW's upcoming wrestling game have slowly started to come forth since then, with the project promising to have all of the great features of the genre like a fully-fledged campaign, multiplayer, and a custom character creator that will allow fans to build their own combatant to face off against the likes of Sting, Chris Jericho, and even Kenny Omega himself. Omega has promised that this new game will shed the simulation-style realism of WWE’s 2K offerings in favor of a more arcade feel in line with beloved wrestling titles of the past like WWF No Mercy and Fire Pro Wrestling

Just a couple of days ago, AEW Games shed some more light on its upcoming wrestling title on Twitter, posting a brief video of some test footage narrated by Kenny Omega. As viewers are treated to some surprisingly polished images of fellow wrestler Darby Allin taking to the ring against a green practice model, Omega promises more reveals in the future.

AEW’s game comes during a trying time for its famed competitor, WWE. Last year, developer 2K was forced to take a hiatus from mainline WWE titles after the disastrous launch of WWE 2K20, and its arcade-style spin-off WWE 2K Battlegrounds was met with a lukewarm reception at best. However, 2K recently revealed WWE 2K22 at this year’s WrestleMania, promising a new approach and much more polished and improved gameplay. Meanwhile, AEW has already begun branching out into the realm of mobile games, with its new AEW Games division announcing AEW Casino: Double or Nothing and AEW Elite GM  in addition to its forthcoming mainline console title.

AEW’s new game is already looking great, with Darby Allin’s virtual avatar showing off some impressive textures and smooth wrestling animations in the still-in-the-works test footage Kenny Omega showed off. With some more time to polish the game’s promised mechanics, it’s possible that All Elite Wrestling could wind up with a breakout success of a gaming franchise right out of the gate, as well as give WWE some needed competition just as it has in the drama-and-martial-arts filled world of professional wrestling.
