Tony Schiavone has seen his fair share of big moments inside an AEW ring, and he recently spoke about Claudio Castagnoli's debut at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Formerly known as Cesaro during his time in WWE, the 41-year-old veteran replaced an injured Bryan Danielson on the pay-per-view card and at the Blood & Guts show on June 29.

Castagnoli already opened up about how his debut was a perfect moment and his match with Zack Sabre Jr. was special despite it being necessitated by an injured Danielson. He fits seamlessly into the Blackpool Combat Club, alongside Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yua, Danielson, and William Regal binding them all together. Castagnoli hasn't missed a beat since jumping to AEW, and people backstage have been speaking glowingly about the Swiss Superman.

Speaking on the AEW Unrestricted Podcast with Aubrey Edwards, Schiavone had this to say about Castagnoli's impact behind the scenes so far: "I had been told by many people what a wonderful person he is, a good person he is, and I found out just by spending 30 minutes with him what type a guy he is. And he is spectacular." He also recounted running into Castagnoli backstage for the first time. "He was tucked away in the back [before Forbidden Door] and I got there early. He was in Tony Khan's room... I mean, I get there at 12:30 I think, and I open up the door and he's standing there and I go 'holy s***, you are here."

Claudio Castagnoli AEW

There had been a lot of speculation online about who would be replacing Danielson at Forbidden Door. Tony Khan seemed to tip AEW's hand a bit during media availability ahead of the event, and during a show that was jam-packed with superstars, Castagnoli may have received the best reaction of the evening. The United Center erupted as soon as the Swiss flag was projected on the entrance screen, and he got a monster pop at Blood & Guts as well.

He hasn't been in AEW long, but Castagnoli already feels like a big deal for the company. Some of All Elite's debuts have fallen a little flat, with Christan Cage's immediately coming to mind. He's emerged as one of the best real heels in the promotion as of late, but it took him a bit to find his footing. It doesn't appear that Castagnoli will face any of the same struggles, both as a performer and from a creative standpoint. Blackpool Combat Club already has several ongoing storylines he can jump right into, and the inevitable showdown with Eddie Kingston will be an awesome program, whenever AEW decides to pull the trigger on it.
