While the show Adventure Time officially ended its run last 2018, its legacy lives on with spinoff series like the limited series Distant Lands and the upcoming show Fionna and Cake. Shows from the Adventure Time franchise are adored by viewers for their outlandish arcs, impressive world-building, and relatable storylines.
The Cartoon Network animated series also has a myriad of characters who successfully captured the hearts of viewers due to their charming, endearing, and admirable personalities. That said, there are some characters who didn't receive a lot of love from the fans. On the social media website Reddit, fans have said their piece and chosen their least-liked characters from Adventure Time.
Tree Trunks
Living outside of Candy Kingdom is the sweet, elephant-like creature Tree Trunks. She reminds viewers of an older Southern woman due to her polite temperament and Texan accent. Some fans of the show find Tree Trunks to be endearing due to her disposition, although she might come off as manipulative as she's also known to use her adorable nature to get help from others.
Redditor CarnivorousL divulges that they think Tree Trunks is a cunning "southerner" whose dialogue about love "is really just plain blegh". It's safe to say that Tree Trunks' cuteness won't work on everyone.
Fionna
Fionna is the gender-swapped version of Finn created by Ice King for his fan-fiction. She travels with her adoptive sibling Cake, who is also capable of stretching her body just like Jake. Fionna is also a sucker for adventure and is ready to come to the rescue of citizens who need help.
But on Reddit, superfluffers reveals that they "really dislike Fionna sometimes" because "she has no personality" and gets on their nerves. This spells trouble for the fun-loving hero since she's about to star in her own spin-off show Fionna and Cake.
Princess Bubblegum
Arguably, Princess Bubblegum, the incarnation of the Candy Elemental and ruler of Candy Kingdom, is the smartest character in Adventure Time. Princess Bubblegum is an intelligent scientist who uses her contraptions and experiments to protect her people and help Finn during his adventures.
But to maintain peace in her kingdom, Princess Bubblegum has made questionable decisions such as manipulating Finn and destroying the weapons of other kingdoms. Redditor LeGuy123 noticed this, and says that she "barely ever suffers consequences for her actions" and that she's "annoying generally".
Maja
In the show, Maja is a witch who attacked the Candy Kingdom by drawing out emotional essence from things with sentimental value. She then uses the emotional essence to create a brew that was able to resurrect a powerful ancient war creature.
Off the bat, Maja was not keen on being a likable character in Adventure Time. She's not a big fan of the concept of friendship and even rejected the Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant's help. In a Reddit thread, Stuped1811 admits that they're "happy the show put her into a coma" since they found Maja to be "super boring and obnoxious".
Magic Man
There are a lot of antagonists in Adventure Time, but some have been able to redeem themselves due to their tragic backstories and willingness to change. That doesn't include Magic Man, who is a Martian that's extremely mischievous and finds pleasure in being cruel to other people.
In one instance, Magic Man posed as a beggar but instead of rewarding those who gave him help, he instead transformed them into mutated creatures. Reddit user jabiztownspaceagency took note of Magic Man's cruelty, as they found him "sadistic" especially when he turned a "bird inside out".
Lemonhope
Just like other Lemon folks, Lemonhope desires freedom from the clutches of their kingdom's tyrannical ruler, Earl of Lemongrab. Despite being personally taught by Princess Bubblegum to free the Lemon People, Lemonhope's desire to live his own life prevailed, and ran off.
Lemonhope didn't understand the concept of selflessness and prioritizes his well-being over the greater good. In addition, he's also "entitled and thinks he's way more important than he really is". That's why Lemonhope gets on the "nerves" of Reddit user superfluffers.
Lemongrab
Lemongrab is one of those cartoon characters who don't have any redeeming qualities. He's incredibly selfish and is a despotic ruler who doesn't care about his people. The episode when the Lemon Kingdom was introduced in the show is one of the scariest Adventure Time episodes as it shows how malnourished and abused the Lemon folk are under Lemongrab's rule.
In a Reddit thread, ZerothGengarz comments that "Lemongrab is supposed to be a character that the general public cannot relate to" and that they "would be happy" if the vile and unpredictable character never showed up again.
Betty
Betty is one of the few Adventure Time characters who knew Ice King when he was still powerless and responded to the name Simon Petrikov. Before the Ice King was corrupted by his crown, he was in a committed relationship with Betty.
Her love for Ice King has forced her to do nefarious things, such as summon the malevolent and chaotic creature GOLB to Ooo. In a Reddit thread, InsertUsername98 names Betty as their most disliked character, especially since "she almost committed genocide" after Ice King didn't recognize her.
Flame Princess
Flame Princess is one of Finn's love interests and was introduced after the first season of Adventure Time. Finn saved Flame Princess from her kingdom, as she was trapped by her own father due to her unpredictable behavior. While she usually has a calm attitude, Flame Princess also has a short fuse and is prone to having violent mood swings.
While she was well received by the show's fans, some Reddit users think that the creators did Flame Princess dirty. Redditor Mudokon117 says that Flame Princess is her least favorite character in the show because she "barely has any development" and it seemed like she was only included in the show "as a plot device". Talk about an underbaked character!
Lumpy Space Princess
Among the different princesses in the Land of Ooo, Lumpy Space Princess is probably one of the most unexpected personalities who have been granted the prestigious title. The princess of Lumpy Space is used to certain luxuries, so she naturally acts like a privileged individual.
Lumpy Space Princess is bratty, rude, and selfish. She's also shown to be apathetic to the struggles of her friends and the people around her. That's why Redditor SurprisedVampire chose her as the worst character in the franchise, especially since "she's never done anything nice for anyone ever".
