Jenna Ortega is woefully inviting audiences to watch the first Wednesday teaser trailer revealing the first look at her Addams Family character. The supernatural comedy will center on the titular Addams daughter as she heads to Nevermore Academy to navigate the troubles of high school and get a handle on her psychic powers. Shortly after arriving, Wednesday also learns of a monstrous killing spree occurring in the neighboring town and discovers a supernatural mystery with ties to her family.

Scream star Jenna Ortega is leading the cast of Wednesday alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Thora Birch, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Gwendoline Christie and Percy Hynes White. Development on the Addams Family series was first announced in late 2020 when Tim Burton signed on to direct an unnamed project based on the cartoon franchise, later revealed to be the Netflix show with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar attached as showrunners and executive producers with Burton. Wednesday would officially begin filming in late 2021 and now audiences are getting a little tease of what's to come from the series.

Just over a couple of months after production wrapped on the series, Netflix has unveiled the first Wednesday teaser trailer. The video reveals the first look at the iconic Addams Family character played by Ortega accompanied with the redesigned Thing. Check out the teaser trailer below:

While the Wednesday teaser trailer may keep much of the show itself under wraps, its reveal of two Addams Family characters is sure to build a little excitement for fans of both the franchise and Tim Burton. Ortega's Wednesday dons the iconic braided pigtails as seen in the comics and previous Addams Family adaptations, most notably Christina Ricci in the '90s movies, while also having a little unique flair with bangs coming down to her eyes for a more gothic/emo look for the character. Additionally, Burton has infused his taste for the macabre into the redesigned Thing, adding stitches throughout its hand to create a Frankenstein-like look.

Anticipation has been high for Wednesday since Burton's involvement was first announced given his gothic sensibilities seen throughout his previous films. Burton had made previous attempts to adapt The Addams Family for the screen, originally being tapped to direct the 1991 film before Batman Returns caused scheduling conflicts, and was set to co-write and potentially direct a stop-motion film at Illumination Entertainment that was quietly cancelled in 2014. With Netflix now giving early looks at Wednesday, a full trailer and release date announcement are sure to be around the corner ahead of its late 2022 release.
