A new teaser trailer and posters have been released for The Addams Family 2, confirming for now that the movie will come out around Halloween 2021. Originally appearing as cartoons in The New Yorker over 80 years ago, The Addams Family became a hit ABC sitcom in the 1960s, introducing a wider audience to the lovable family of macabre misfits. Since then, the iconic franchise has expanded to multiple TV series, musicals, video games, and movies, the most popular of which was the 1991 film and its sequel starring Anjelica Huston as matriarch Morticia Addams.

The Addams Family franchise took on a new direction with the 2019 computed-animated movie, featuring the voices of Charlize Theron, Oscar Isaac, Finn Wolfhard, and Chloë Grace Moretz, among many other stars. Despite mixed reviews, it was an enormous box office success, grossing $203 million worldwide against a $24 million budget. Surely enough, that considerable success immediately led to the announcement of a sequel.

And MGM gave audiences their first look at the sequel today in the form of a new teaser announcement and posters. Though the materials say The Addams Family 2 will come out a year from now around Halloween 2021, the studio's press release reports the specific date: October 8, 2021. The teaser features the fan-favorite characters of Uncle Fester (voiced by Nick Kroll), Cousin Itt (voiced by Snoop Dogg), and Wednesday Addams (voiced by Moretz). It also promotes The Addams Family Voice Challenge, where fans can enter to have their voice featured in the movie. Check out the new trailer and posters below.

The Addams Family 2's voice cast will be rounded out with new additions Bill Hader and Javon "Wanna" Walton, the 14-year-old newcomer who most recently appeared in Amazon's Utopia and HBO's Euphoria. Hader will voice an all-new character named Cyrus, while Walton will replace Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley Addams. The rest of the main cast, including Huston and Isaac, are expected to reprise their roles.

Although many live-action films have delayed their release dates lately, it seems that animated movies and TV shows may have an easier time sticking to their release dates. Animated movies like The Addams Family 2 could more easily be finished on time since they're mostly made remotely and don't require large gatherings of actors and crew on a set. That could be why the studio was boldly specific with The Addams Family 2's October 8, 2021 release date, but like every other upcoming movie, audiences will have to wait and hope it doesn't get kicked further down the road.
