Star: Trek: Picard showrunner Michael Chabon wants to write a Marvel movie about Adam Warlock. A novelist, screenwriter, columnist, and short story writer, Chabon’s first work was published in 1988. Published under the title of The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, the novel was a coming-of-age tale that followed the son of a money launderer. Following a second novel and two short story collections, Chabon came out with The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. Chronicling the lives of two Jewish cousins around the period of the second World War and after, the novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2001.

Chabon is known for being a defender of genre fiction, arguing for its merits and including some of its elements in Kavalier and Clay. Given that affinity, and given how he’s written science fiction stories himself, his interest in Warlock comes as no surprise. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and significantly developed by Roy Thomas and Jim Starlin, Adam Warlock made his Marvel Comics debut in 1967. Despite his long history, and despite the fact that he’s popped up in well over 500 issues in the comic book lane, Adam Warlock has never appeared in a live-action film.

Warlock, has, however been teased. The character’s cocoon, which he uses for self-preservation and regeneration, briefly appears as part of an end-credits scene for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. This has led to a flurry of speculation about whether or not the iconic Marvel creation might soon make the jump to a big Hollywood blockbuster feature. If it happens, Chabon has made it known that he wants to be involved. The acclaimed writer revealed this during a Q&A session on Instagram. Check out in the screencap below.

Chabon has expressed his admiration for Warlock in the past. As far back as 2012, while speaking with The New York Times, he mentioned Warlock as a dream project for him to adapt. Though he is perhaps best known for being a successful author, Chabon is no stranger to working on high-profile productions in the entertainment world. Along with his current job running Star Trek: Picard, he worked on the script of Spider-Man 2. He also collaborated on the screenplay of John Carter.

Chabon isn’t the only notable creator to express interest in Marvel, of course. Damon Lindelof, the showrunner of Lost and Watchmen, has recently expressed similar sentiments. Marvel has a history of tapping well-known names to bring their ideas to moviegoers. It doesn’t always work out. But when it does, such as Joss Whedon being selected to direct The Avengers, it proved to be a gamechanger. Chabon, like Whedon, is a long-time fan with an impressive resume and he’d be a great choice for any future Warlock adaptation.
