Adam Sandler is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the movie business, and not even the worst Adam Sandler movies have slowed down his output. After getting his start on Saturday Night Live, Sandler went on to become one of the highest-grossing comedy actors of all time and continues to make popular movies all these years later. But he is also an actor who isn't often favored by critics. While they seem to agree Sandler is capable of delivering stunning performances, many of his films have been brutally torn apart by critics for his entire career.

Recently, Adam Sandler has enjoyed an interesting critical reappraisal of his acting career. While he is almost predominantly making movies for Netflix now instead of movie theaters, he has enjoyed success with a few movies that earned Oscar recognition, including Uncut Gems and Hustle. Even his more recent movies, like Murder Mystery, have seen critics react less harshly than they have in past years. However, there are still several movies in his past that rank as some of the worst movies released to the masses.

10 Bulletproof (1996)

It seems like every comedic actor has to make a buddy-cop comedy at some point in their career and Sandler is no different. Bulletproof stars Damon Wayans as an undercover FBI agent who is forced to team up with his former friend and criminal (Sandler) to take down a crime lord. In comparison to the other buddy cop movies, critics found Bulletproof to be one of the lesser entries in the genre. The action was not seen as being particularly entertaining, and the humor didn't elicit as many laughs. Released in between Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer, it ended up as a slight letdown.

9 Grown Ups (2010)

Sandler decided to use his star power to have some fun with his best buddies. Grown Ups stars Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Keven James, and Rob Schneider as a group of childhood friends who reunite at their old summer camp to say goodbye to their old basketball coach. While the obvious fun the cast clearly had making this movie seemed occasionally infectious, it only stretched for far. However, while the movie was a critical bomb, it did great at the box office and Sandler fans loved it, with a nice $271.4 million take on an $80 million budget (via Box Office Mojo).

8 Little Nicky (2000)

While he had several beloved movies in the 1990s, when Little Nicky hit in 2000, it seemed critics and audiences had given up on him and this ended up as one of the worst Adam Sandler movies as far as most people were concerned. In the movie, Sandler starred as Satan's son, Nicky. In the movie, Satan has to decide who will succeed him when he retires as the new ruler of Hell, and it is between Nicky, the devious Adrian, and the cruel Cassius. The movie was a box office bomb, failing to make back its budget, and critics hated it. It ended up being nominated for five Razzies, although it lost all of them to Battlefield Earth.

7 Blended (2014)

Sandler and Drew Barrymore have proven to be a solid on-screen team in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates but Blended was not as well received. The two actors star as single parents who have a disastrous blind date and then find themselves stuck on an African vacation with each other and their respective families. Though the movie was received kindlier by audiences, critics pointed to it as a rare Sandler comedy that is actually just boring. The movie picked up Sandler a Razzie nomination, despite his chemistry with Barrymore. This might be a case where their past work (The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates) hurt this movie.

6 The Do-Over (2016)

While it's nice that Sandler enjoys making movies with his old Saturday Night Live pals, they don't usually turn out so well. The Do-Over stars Sandler and David Spade as two unlucky friends who decide to fake their own deaths in order to turn their lives around. Spade and Sandler, despite their chemistry, make for obnoxious leads in a project that would have better suited them in their younger years. This was the second movie Sandler made for Netflix, and it is one that few still remember when it comes to his massive number of films for the streamer.

5 The Cobbler (2014)

When it was announced Sandler would be teaming up with acclaimed filmmaker Tom McCarthy, it seemed like one of Sandler's more acclaimed dramatic turns. However, The Cobbler turned out more like Sandler's usual silly comedies in the story of a cobbler who can become different people by wearing their shoes. This film was more interesting than the usual Sandler comedy with a silly premise. However, the over-sentimental story and clichéd moments made it hard to see much of an improvement. The movie doesn't measure up with similar Sandler indie movies like Punch Drunk Love and Spanglish.

4 Grown Ups 2 (2013)

The whole gang is back together — minus Schneider — in this sequel to the panned but successful Grown Ups. The comedy finds the immature adult friends moving back to their hometown, reuniting with old acquaintances, and meeting new enemies as the summer kicks off. For the second time around, the cast and filmmakers seemed to be even less interested in making a worthwhile follow-up to the fun experience in the first film. The same lowbrow humor was at play, making another excuse for these famous friends to hang out together. It picked up nine Razzie nominations.

3 Hubie Halloween (2020)

It seems that the worst Adam Sandler movies seem to have one big thing in common. They feature Sandler playing a "character" who often speaks in a slow dimwitted manner and has a clear lack of intelligence. This was a persona that he brought back in Hubie Halloween in 2020. After starting to pick up momentum with his more serious comedies, in this movie, he played a mentally slow man in Salem, Massachusetts who everyone made fun of. However, when evil arrives on Halloween, he is the only one who can save the day. The movie earned three Razzie nominations.

2 The Ridiculous 6 (2015)

Sandler's lucrative partnership with Netflix kicked off with the Western comedy, The Ridiculous 6. Sandler stars as a man raised by Native Americans who realizes he and five other men are the illegitimate sons of an outlaw. The half-brothers decide to join forces to save their father. The movie ended up panned by critics, but fans tuned in to see what it was all about, helping it set records for Netflix at the time of its release. However, while it got lots of views early on, it remains one of the most offensive of the worst Adam Sandler movies, with caricatures of Native American culture and low-brow gags that made the movie mostly forgotten by now.

1 Jack And Jill (2011)

Adam Sandler as twins standing back-to-back in Jack and Jill

The premise of Jack and Jill sees Sandler playing a successful advertising executive who is forced to put up with his obnoxious twin sister (also played by Sandler) while she visits him and his family for an extended period. Unsurprisingly, the premise didn't go over well with critics, and they didn't have many nice things to say about the movie beyond that. What shocked most people was that Al Pacino somehow agreed to appear in one of the worst Adam Sandler movies as himself, playing someone who seemed attracted to Jill. This was the first movie in history to ever sweep the Razzies, winning all 12 awards.
