Netflix unveils a new, action-packed trailer for its latest Ryan Reynolds movie, The Adam Project. The behemoth streamer has a busy 2022 slate ahead when it comes to original movies, and one of the buzziest projects by far is The Adam Project. Directed by Shawn Levy, the film reunites him with his Free Guy leading man Reynolds for a very different kind of sci-fi movie. This time around, Reynolds plays Adam, a time-traveler who crash lands into his past while trying to save the future. He soon meets his 12-year-old self (Walker Scobell) and must seek out his late father (Mark Ruffalo) for help in returning to his actual time.

In addition to Reynolds and Ruffalo, The Adam Project stars Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner, and Catherine Keener. It is set to premiere on Netflix next month and already has the potential to be the streamer's biggest original movie of 2022; its impressive cast and compelling premise have gone a long way in drumming up interest. Beyond that, early reviews for The Adam Project have all been very favorable, suggesting Reynolds and Levy have another crowd-pleasing hit on their hands.

With just over a week to go before The Adam Project arrives, Netflix has released a new trailer for the film. Not only does it highlight some of those glowing early reactions (many of which compare it to Steven Spielberg's own sci-fi work), it reveals a bit more about the plot. For example, the older Adam confirms this has nothing to do with the multiverse, so fans who are still reeling from the highs of Spider-Man: No Way Home can check those expectations at the door. Check it out below.

As the Adam Project trailer reveals, the adult Adam is on the run from a dangerous future. His goal, and that of Saldana's Laura as well, is to stop time-travel from ever being invented. This is what brings Adam back to his father Louis, who passed away when he was a boy. A reunion between father and son would be emotional enough when there's one son involved, but the 12-year-old Adam gets to tag along here too. The trailer features just a hint of his tear-streaked reaction to seeing his dad again, but The Adam Project itself will likely delve much deeper into this reunion. Audiences better brace themselves for both tears and laughter.

When it comes to the latter, The Adam Project already seems to have that in spades. The new trailer packs in some funny moments, such as the banter between the two Adams that has the younger one insulting his older self. With Reynolds and Levy involved, The Adam Project was already bound to hold some humor, and it'll be interesting to see how the film balances that with the heavier themes. At its heart, The Adam Project looks like a family drama, but with a ton of sci-fi elements baked in. This is bound to be a thrilling and fun ride.
