Adam Cole reportedly sustained a concussion at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, and it sounds like it could be a while before AEW fans see him wrestle again. The head injury was bad enough on that night that Jay White called an audible, taking the fatal four-way match home sooner than planned. In two weeks, it'll have been a third of a year since audiences have seen Cole wrestle, and the updates on his condition have been few and far between.

In the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, a fan wrote in to check on the 33-year-old and inquire about his recovery process. Dave Meltzer said the following in response: "Did you hear anything new? I mean, it's a concussion. It's a bad concussion, a [really] bad concussion... he'll be back when he's cleared. It could be tomorrow, and it could be never. Ya' know what I mean?" AEW and WWE insider Bryan Alverez also weighed in, stating, "I've not really heard anything. I mean, he's doing his Twitch deal every day. From that aspect, he's fine. But I don't know what the status of being able to travel, work, [or] anything is. Guess we'll see."

AEW Landscape Has Shifted In Adam Cole's Absence

At one point, AEW had a pretty clear pecking order. CM Punk, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, and Chris Jericho were all considered top draws, with Adam Cole generating a ton of excitement. Since Forbidden Door, Tony Khan has had numerous issues to deal with, several of which have led to talent being suspended or sent home from television. The company is still recovering from CM Punk's post-All Out atom bomb. He's injured for the foreseeable future, while it might be a while before fans see The Young Bucks and Omega back in an AEW ring. Danielson missed Forbidden Door due to a concussion, while Jericho seems to be made out of the same stuff Wolverine is.

When everyone was healthy, there was an intriguing storyline brewing around Cole. Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish were pulling at him from one side, with the Being The Elite crew wanting him on their side. No one who would have been involved in that massive feud is currently on AEW television. O'Reilly reportedly underwent surgery over the summer and hasn't wrestled since June 8. Fish has departed the company and is now in Impact, while The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are unavilable due to a physical confrontation with CM Punk following All Out. If Cole can return anytime soon, the AEW he's returning to looks quite different than the one he left.
