Going back to watch Agatha Christie's Poirot is always a fun endeavor. David Suchet is arguably the actor who better embodies Christie's character, and the adventures of the Belgian detective are enacted down to perfection. Fans of the genre have a real treat in the show, that delivered not only incredible performances by all the actors involved, stunning scenery, and an overall production value that makes it clear why the series remains as popular as when it premiered in 1989.

A curious thing about the series is the fact that it served as the jumping board for many actors. It's not uncommon for familiar faces to appear on the screen, faces that went on to become big stars, or were incredibly famous, to begin with. In this article, we take a look back at the beloved show and show you 10 actors that you completely forgot had a role on Poirot.

Christopher Eccleston

Curiously enough, Eccleston isn't the only incarnation of Doctor Who to be featured on this list, but more on that later. Christopher Eccleston joined Poirot and friends in the 1992 episode "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe", a confusing case surrounding a dead dentist that puzzles Poirot.

Eccleston already had a few acting credits to his name prior to being on the show, but it was later, in 2005, that he made waves all across the world when he was cast to play the Doctor in the revival of Doctor Who.

Russel Tovey

British actor Russel Tovey is one of those faces that everyone recognizes but no one can quite pinpoint from where. This is mostly due to the fact that Tovey has an extensive acting resumé that includes titles such as Sherlock, Quantico, and several shows centered around the Arrowverse, where he plays The Ray.

Back in 2001, Tovey had a small role in the season 8 episode "Evil Under The Sun", as the child of a man married to a naive actress who showed up dead under suspicious circumstances.

Joely Richardson

Joely Richardson, daughter of Dame Vanessa Redgrave, who also starred in her own movie based on an Agatha Christie novel, has been in the acting business for decades. Some of her most famous roles include the hit show Nip/Tuck, as well as movies like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Red Sparrow.

In 1989, Richardson was featured in one of the very first episodes of Agatha Christie's Poirot, "The Dream", where she played the coveted part of Joanna Farley.

Rupert Penry-Jones

Yet another British actor who took a giant leap after being featured on the show was Ruper Penry-Jones. Fans of British novels will recognize him as Captain Wentworth from the 2007 version of Jane Austen's persuasion. Those who are more inclined to the cinema might know him from his role in Matchpoint, among many other roles.

Penry-Jones starred in the season 9 episode, "Sad Cypress", as Roddy Winter, an engaged man who sees himself stuck in a love triangle - a deadly one, in which one of the parts ends up dead.

Tim Curry

Timothy James Curry is easily one of the most recognizable faces in the industry, both in movies and television. With a career that spans almost five decades, Curry has been involved in franchises such as Star Wars, The Adams Family, as well as dozen of animation projects.

Curry also lent his expertise to Poirot, starring in season 11's "Appointment With Death" as archeologist Lord Boynton, who sees himself implicated in a series of very unfortunate events.

Peter Capaldi

We weren't lying when we said Christopher Eccleston wasn't the only Doctor who'd be featured on this list! Only a year prior to Eccleston's run of the show, Capaldi starred in the season three episode "Wasp's Nest", that saw Poirot running around in an attempt to prevent death from occurring.

Capaldi went on to even greater things, winning an Academy Award in 1995 for "Best Short Film, Live Action" and, of course, starring as the main character in Doctor Who.

Aidan Gillen

Fans of Game of Thrones will instantly recognize this face as the infamous Littlefinger. Before he was Lord Baelish on the critically acclaimed HBO series, Gillian too had a run with our favorite Belgian Detective.

Aidan starred in "Five Little Piggs" as Amias Crane, the victim of a murder that is retold in a series of flashbacks by several witnesses and is still rated as one of the best episodes of the show.

Damian Lewis

Red-hair extraordinaire and Golden Globe Award winner Damian Lewis is no stranger to audiences all over the world. As the star of hit shows such as Homeland and Billions, Lewis has built an incredible career spanning several genres and mediums.

Back in 1995, Damian starred in "Hickory Dickory Dock" as a medical student living in a hostel where suspicious things were happening. And curiously enough, this was the actor's second time acting on screen!

Michael Fassbender

Micheal Fassbender is arguably one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. But before he was gracing the screens in X-Men and Assassin's Creed, he was featured in an episode of Poirot.

Fassbender played George Abernethie in "After The Funeral", an episode with so many twists and turns, many heads are probably still spinning - even though it's been fifteen years!

Emily Blunt

before her big break in 2006's The Devil Wears Prada, Emily Blunt took on the role of Linnet Ridgeway in Poirot's "Death On The Nile". Even though her character ended up dying, Blunt still got enough screen time to delight audiences.

Years later, Blunt has been involved in projects like Edge of Tomorrow, The Adjustment Bureau, Mary Poppins Returns, and many more box-office hits.
