The Oscars are the most prestigious annual award and celebration in Hollywood, and every actor, director, and members of a movie crew are long awaiting their moment to shine with the golden statue. Of course, some actors are known for having a whole lot of nominations, while some only needed one movie to get their name in lights.

There are others, though, that only have one Oscar win under their belts, and these are actors and actresses that fans and movie buffs would probably be shocked to learn about. It's time to celebrate these one-time winners for all the movies that they definitely should have taken home another win for.

Al Pacino

To start off the list with a big shock, the iconic legend - Al Pacino - has only taken home one Oscar win. He was finally recognized for his talent by the academy in 1993, for Scent of a Woman. However, he has EIGHT other nominations.

How he didn't win anything for The Godfather, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, ...and justice for all, or The Irishman, is definitely mind-blowing to all fans. It's hard to love movies without knowing and loving Al Pacino.

Kate Winslet

This bombshell has been sharing her talent since 1996, and she couldn't even take home the win for her '90s fame in Sense and Sensibility and Titanic, despite receiving nominations for both.

She did take home the win for The Reader, which means she lost out on her other six nominations! That's just the beginning, too, because she certainly has even more to be celebrated.

Matthew McConaughey

Alright, alright, alright, this heartthrob was finally able to take home the win in 2014 for Dallas Buyers ClubWhat is even more surprising, though, is this is also his one and only Oscar nomination!

From A Time to Kill to The Lincoln Lawyer to Mud to White Boy Rick, even McConaughey's short time on-screen for The Wolf of Wall Street could have totally scored him a nomination. This actor is definitely underappreciated by the academy.

Reese Witherspoon

Most recently, Reese Witherspoon has been killing it on the small screen, from Big Little Lies to The Morning Show to Little Fires Everywhere. However, her talent has already been proven on the big screen.

She won for her role alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line, and only scored a nomination for Wild. She has many other flicks with mesmerizing performances - and this versatile bombshell was definitely (and wrongly) ignored.

Faye Dunaway

Faye Dunaway is a fan favorite of all movie buffs, and she's probably the biggest 'throwback' on this list. She won in 1977 for Networkbut that means she didn't get the proper recognition for Chinatown or Bonnie and Clyde.

She did score a nomination for each, but the fact that this iconic actress only has one Oscar is a definite shame - since she's proved time and time again how timeless and brilliant she really is.

Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix was the front-runner, and deserved winner, for the entire Oscar season of 2020, where he took home the win for his thrilling and masterful role in Joker.

It was a long time coming, though, since he's also received nominations for Gladiator, Walk the Line, and The Master. This versatile actor deserved to walk that stage eventually, and it's crazy it was his first time.

Charlize Theron

Aileen Wuornos at court in Monster

This actress might be one of the most talented out there today, and she's only received one Oscar for her role in Monster back in 2004. since then, she's blown fans away with Tully, Bombshell, and North Country.

She scored two nominations, but this versatile and brilliant actress could have even deserved a nod for Mad Max: Fury Road, and many, many more.

Russell Crowe

This handsome and talented actor has been everyone's celebrity crush for years. On top of that, he's totally brilliant and versatile in his roles. He's only won for Gladiatorand missed out on the win for The Insider and A Beautiful Mind.

Crowe has much more to offer, though, including Les Misérables and Cinderella Man. He can do and slay anything, and it's a shame he hasn't been more recognized for it.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is inarguably one of the most popular actress today. She pulled out the win for her memorable role alongside Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbookand received three other nominations!

She could have easily won for Winter's Bone, Joy, and especially for her iconic performance in American Hustle. Yet even still, the Oscars neglected her riveting performance in both Red Sparrow and Mother!.

Leonardo DiCaprio

This is one fans will never get over. Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY took home his Oscar in 2016 for the action adventure, The RevenantHe's been slaying the big screen since 1994, and he's actually only received five other nominations!

The Aviator, Blood Diamond, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood were definitely close losses, but the Academy totally blew by Django Unchained, Inception, Shutter Island, and many, many more. No one will ever forget his mind-blowing performances in these films.
