Plastic surgery is something that is way too common in the entertainment industry. Many actors feel the pressure to look their best both in front of the screen and in real life.
While many actors and actresses receive plastic surgery, not all of them are happy with the results. Not only has plastic surgery changed throughout the years when it comes to quality, but safety procedures have also vastly changed.
As science continues to evolve, access to plastic surgery is becoming easier and easier. There are new and improved procedures that a lot of people want done. That being said, there are many procedures in the plastic surgery world that help people who medically need it. However, most actors who are receiving plastic surgery are doing it to "better" their looks and/or keep themselves looking young and fresh.
While some actors might be pleased with their plastic surgery results, others are not. Whether it be due to medical reasons or just the overall outcome, there are plenty of actors who wish they could turn back time and not have their surgery (or surgeries) done in the first place.
Here are the 15 Actors Who Regret Getting Plastic Surgery.
15 Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow might be more known for her website Goop and all the crazy things she claims to know about health, but she's also an Oscar winning actress. Having starred in movies such as Iron Man, Se7en, and Shakespeare in Love, Paltrow is known as a professional in Hollywood.
However, Paltrow decided that she still needed to look better. As she got older, she felt the need to keep up with the younger generation, so she decided to get Botox injections.
It's not like Paltrow is ashamed of her desire to stay beautiful. Instead, she soon realized that the Botox didn't make her feel any more beautiful than before.
In an interview, Paltrow claimed that she "won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!" Not the greatest compliment towards the late Joan Rivers, but nevertheless, Paltrow regrets how Botox made her feel about herself.
14 Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz hasn't acted in the past few years, but you probably know her best from There's Something About Mary, Gangs of New York, and Charlie's Angels. She also voiced Fiona in Shrek.
While Diaz hasn't done anything super intense, she has received Botox injections before. She claimed that "it changed my face in such a weird way that I was like, 'No, I don't want to be like that'" and thus regrets doing it in the first place.
Diaz has been open about the entire situation. She understands that some people want Botox, but believes that people also need to start accepting that that they are aging. For a long time, she was very worried about things like wrinkles and whatnot, but after receiving the Botox, she decided she was just going to let herself look the way she looks.
13 Courtney Cox
Courtney Cox is yet another actress who regrets getting plastic surgery. The actress, who is best known for playing Monica Geller on Friends, had the procedure done to prevent herself from looking older.
Cox spent years receiving fillers in her face. "I grew up thinking that appearance was the most important thing," she admitted. "That’s kind of sad because it got me in trouble. I was trying so hard to keep up, and I actually made things worse.”
After years of receiving the treatment, Cox's face has become extremely stiff and lifeless. She blames her desire to keep her youthful appearance on playing such an iconic character on television. Fans remember how she looked back when she starred on Friends, so she therefore felt the need to get surgery in order to always look young.
12 Tara Reid
Tara Reid was a classic crush of many teens when she appeared as Vicky in American Pie. Since then, she has become the star of the Sharknado series and even appeared on Scrubs.
Reid was being interviewed when she confessed that she hated her plastic surgery. When she was younger in 2004, she had a breast augmentation that resulted in some very negative results. Specifically, she claims that her skin became incredibly rippled after the surgery.
The surgery actually resulted in hernia right next to her belly button. This meant that she couldn't wear a bikini anymore, and she claims that it made her lose a lot of work. She ended up having the procedure reversed two years later in 2006.
11 Tori Spelling
Tori Spelling is more known for her reality shows these days rather than her acting credits. However, you probably recognize her from her portrayal as Donna in Beverly Hills 90210.
When Spelling was in her early twenties, she had breast implants put in. While she was satisfied with what she saw, she wasn't satisfied with the fact that it caused major problems once she started having children.
Spelling claims that "if I had known it would or could possibly impact production of milk, I would never had had them done." When any sort of breast procedure is done, whether it be implants or a reduction (or anything else for that matter) there's a strong chance that it will affect breast feeding later on in her life.
Spelling was disappointed in that complication, but also in her daughter's reaction later in life. When her daughter found out that Spelling's breast weren't real, she apparently became really upset at her mom.
10 Kathy Griffin
Kathy Griffin is a comedian who has also done some acting work. You'd probably recognize her from Suddenly Susan and Dilbert, or any of the other television shows that she has made an appearance on.
When Griffin was only twenty-six years old, she decided to have a nose job. She claims that she was overly worried about her looks at the time, which she later discussed in her memoir, stating: "what I can’t figure out is why I wasted time worrying about my looks. I am a comedian. I’m not on the runway in Milan."
Griffin also decided to have liposuction done which ended up not working out very well. She later said that she lost more weight by being healthy in general than by the actual procedure itself.
No matter what she did though, Griffin says that she always felt like it wasn't enough for Hollywood, so the procedures resulted in nothing.
9 Lisa Rinna
Lisa Rinna is currently on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She was a star on the soap operas Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place. However, you might recognize her best as Logan Echolls mom on Veronica Mars.
It may be obvious to most, but Rinna has had her lips done. She's open about it, but that doesn't mean she's very pleased about it.
After have her lips injected, they appeared to look fake which wasn't very pleasing to Rinna. However, it wasn't just how her lips looked, but also about how her lips felt.
When she was only twenty-four years old, Rinna had her lips injected with silicone. Her lips felt hard and what she call, "yucky," so later, when she was older, she decided to have her lips reduced. She had a plastic surgeon take out as much of the silicone that was in her lips as possible, yet it still resulted in her lips being puffier than before she had them done.
While Cher might be more well-known for her music, she's also an Oscar winning actress for her performance as Loretta Castorini in the film Moonstruck in 1987.
Cher has received breast implants in the past. However, the operation didn't go well and she wasn't very pleased with the final result. She claimed that her "breast operations were a nightmare" and that "they were really botched in every way." She continues on to say that her breasts looked better before her operation than afterwards, and thus regrets the entire operation.
While Cher hated her breast surgery, she has been open about other plastic surgery procedures that she has had done. She doesn't seem to mind the other things she has had done to herself, but she just hates the way her chest looked after her breast procedure.
7 Mickey Rourke
Mickey Rourke has been around for awhile, but you might probably know him best for his roles in The Wrestler, Iron Man 2, and Sin City.
Before Rourke became an actor, he was a boxer. Once he got into acting, he realized that boxing helped his mental state a lot, and thus he took up the sport once more. This led to him getting punched in the face a lot, which then resulted in him wanting to correct his face, specifically his nose which he claims he broke twice.
Rourke had five surgeries to correct his nose and one done on his cheekbones. The surgeries did not go well and resulted in Rourke looking nothing like his old self.
In 2009, Rourke went to have those surgeries corrected by a different doctor. When being interviewed, Rourke said, "Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together."
6 Jennifer Grey
Jennifer Grey was incredibly recognizable in the '80s. She portrayed Baby in Dirty Dancing, Jeanie Bueller in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Toni in Red Dawn. She also won Dancing with the Stars.
In 1989, Grey decided to have her nose done. She felt that her nose was very different from most other peoples' noses and she wanted it to be less noticeable and make less of a statement. However, she realized soon after that her nose was what made her special and unique.
"It was the nose job from hell," she claimed. "I’ll always be this once-famous actress nobody recognizes because of a nose job."
After her nose surgery, Grey started receiving less major rolls. She fell from being an up and comer to being a B-list actress. She blames her nose job because she went from being a noticeable star to looking just like everybody else.
5 Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis is known for a lot of rolls. Most recently, she's known for being in Ryan Murphy's now cancelled Scream Queens, as well as her role in Freaky Friday.
Curtis hates her plastic surgeries for two reasons. First, she said the procedures didn't work. She had procedures done to get rid of her wrinkles, as well as liposuction. She said that none of the procedures worked, especially the liposuction. Curtis claims that everything she didn't like about her stomach and thighs originally stayed exactly the same after the surgeries.
The second reason why she hates her plastic surgery is because she unfortunately became addicted to pain pills after one of her surgeries. This resulted in a battle all on its own, but it was her plastic surgery decisions which landed her there in the first place.
4 Jane Fonda
Jane Fonda had been around in Hollywood for quite some time. She's a professional at what she does, having starred in many films. Recently, she has done work on some television shows including The Newsroom and Grace and Frankie.
Fonda first started out as a model because she needed the money to pay for acting lessons. After that, she realized how important looks were in the business and decided to have some plastic surgery done.
When asked about her plastic surgery decisions, which vary in multiple procedures, Fonda claimed that, while her surgeries gave her more screen time for more years, it wasn't worth it because of how it affected her emotionally.
"I grew up so defined by my looks," she said. "I was taught to think that if I wanted to be loved, I had to be thin and pretty. That leads to a lot of trouble."
3 Dana Delaney
Dana Delaney is a successful working actress who you might recognize from Desperate Housewives, Body of Proof, and Hand of God. She also voiced Lois Lane in the Justice League.
Like a lot of other actresses, Delaney has had Botox done, though she says she will never do it again. She even went so far as to warn other women to not have the procedure done as well, hoping to save them from her experience.
When Delaney had the procedure done, the doctor hit a nerve in her forehead which then created a hematoma. The nerve died which then resulted in one of Dealney's eyes drooping. While it's not the most noticeable thing, she notices it and claims that her face is "no longer as symmetrical" as it was before.
2 Melissa Gilbert
While you might not recognize Melissa Gilbert as an adult, you'll surely remember her from when she portrayed Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie.
After graduating from the show and becoming an adult, Gilbert decided that she wanted to have breast implants. However, years later, she decided to have her implants removed.
The reasoning behind having her implants removed is based on regrets that the surgery affected her overall health. Also, she said that her larger breasts didn't feel right on her and didn't fit her frame at all.
"Frankly, I'd like to be able to take a Zumba class without the fear that I'll end up with two black eyes," she said a week before having her implants removed. She said Hollywood pressures women to stay young forever, but that this just isn't possible or realistic.
1 Reid Ewing
Reid Ewing is a young actor who stars on Modern Family. In the past few years, his look has greatly changed due to the plastic surgery that he has had done. Sadly, Ewing has dealt with body dysmorphia, which is something that happens to someone when they can't stop obsessing about how they look and can't see themselves for who they truly are.
Ewing decided to start having plastic surgery procedures done because he though that "no one is allowed to be this ugly." He ended up starting off with cheek implants before deciding to have other surgeries done as well.
Ewing regrets his decision to have plastic surgery because, no matter what he did, he still wasn't happy. In fact, it was just making his life much worse and feeding into his illness.
