While it's certainly outdated today, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is one of the greatest games of all time. If Hollywood was to adapt a GTA video game, it should be Vice City. The '80s are hot right now (especially in music), and Vice City could capitalize on that trend in numerous interesting ways.

The game's Florida setting could make for gorgeous and colorful viewing (especially in HDR), and the soundtrack would most certainly launch some '80s gems back onto the charts. Of course, it would be nothing without a good Tommy Vercetti at the helm.

Ray Liotta

Goodfellas Henry Hill Ray Liotta

Ray Liotta of Goodfellas fame voiced Tommy Vercetti for the video game, so it only makes sense to consider him for the movie adaptation as well. The voice would certainly make a great transition from game to movie! The only problem could be age.

According to the GTA wiki, Tommy Vercetti was born in 1951, making him 35 in 1986. Ray Liotta turned 66 in 2020, and by the time the movie would actually start filming, he would be pushing 70. It's possible to de-age him, Irishman style, but that would prove both risky and incredibly expensive.

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth could make for a great Tommy Vercetti. He sort of looks like Tommy (provided the producers dye his hair black), and he's also 37 years old, making him the perfect age. He also exudes charisma, much like Tommy himself, and he comes across as just the right amount of "cool."

His dry wit and sarcasm is another bonus, as Tommy is a curt individual with a dry and sarcastic sense of humor. Finally, he's strong and tall at 6'3'', making him a physically imposing and threatening figure.

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill

Another veteran of the superhero genre, Henry Cavill could make for another great Tommy Vercetti. Like Hemsworth, Cavill is strong, tall, and imposing, standing at a bulky 6'1''. Of course, he'd have to shed some of his Witcher muscle, as Tommy wasn't nearly that muscular!

Another positive is that Cavill looks a lot like Tommy, complete with the black hair and strong jaw. The only problem is that Cavill hasn't been given much opportunity to show off his comedic chops, and Tommy is a very funny character.

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson in The Lighthouse

Robert Pattinson has come a long way from his Twilight days. He's proven himself a commendable actor in recent years, and he has more than enough chops to tackle Tommy Vercetti. Like everyone else, Pattinson is a big man.

He stands at 6'1'', and unlike Cavill, he has more of a lean "everyday man" physique, which allows him to fit more comfortably (physically, at least) into the role. And like Tommy, Pattinson is a very dry, cool, and charismatic individual. He is also the perfect age at 34, and he proved in The Lighthouse that he could play "unhinged" quite well. It could definitely work.

Rami Malek

Rami Malek in No Time to Die

Rami Malek has burst onto the scene in recent years thanks to numerous fantastic roles. Tommy Vercetti could be another. He's proven before (in TV, movies, and video games) that he can play unhinged psychopaths quite well, and Tommy is nothing if not an unhinged psychopath. And while Ramek is pushing 40, he still fits inside the acceptable window for age discrepancy.

The only problem is that Malek is 5'9'', which may prove a little too short for Tommy. But that's nothing a little movie magic can't fix.

Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling in Only God Forgives

It may sound a little unconventional, but Ryan Gosling could make for a great Tommy Vercetti if given good direction. He's proven in movies like Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Nice Guys that he can be both very charming and very funny. But he can also be intimidating, as seen in movies like All Good Things and Drive.

Drive is essentially Vice City in movie form, and The Driver in many ways is similar to Tommy Vercetti. Take The Driver, take away his loving feelings, give him a little more charisma and humor, and you essentially have Tommy Vercetti.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler

Like Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal can play both charming and psychotic with ease. Gyllenhaal certainly looks the part. He has black hair, he falls within the acceptable age range, and he stands at a solid 5'11''.

And while some may think he's a little too nice and "boy next door" to play Tommy Vercetti, one only needs to watch Nightcrawler to see that he can be far more than that. He comes across as incredibly creepy and dangerous throughout the movie, and it'd be perfect for Tommy's more coldhearted and violent moments.

Oscar Isaac

Poe Dameron and Zorii Bliss in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

Oscar Isaac could make for a good Tommy Vercetti, and his role in Ex Machina could make for a great audition tape. He is quite friendly and outgoing throughout the movie, and he seems like quite an agreeable person.

However, he is hiding darker secrets under the surface and proves a little more dangerous than initially believed. In many ways, his character is much like Tommy. He also looks the part, and while he's currently in his early 40s, he could still pass for mid-30s.

Chris Evans

Chris Evans as Ransom Drysdale in Knives Out

Another superhero pick is Chris Evans. Evans nails the balance between charismatic funny guy and creepy psycho, as evident by numerous roles. He's obviously shown off his comedic chops throughout the MCU and can prove a very friendly and agreeable person.

However, he can also play heartless, cold, and borderline psychotic, as seen in his brilliant performance as Hugh Ransom Drysdale in Knives Out. In fact, Hugh shares many similarities with Tommy, including his cold sense of humor, general apathy, and psychotic scheming.

Chris Pine

Chris Pine in Horrible Bosses 2

Another Chris deserving of the role is Chris Pine. Pine actually looks a lot like Ray Liotta and Tommy Vercetti, which certainly helps. He can play goofy and charming, as seen in Wonder Woman.

He can be tough and fearsome, as seen in movies like Star Trek and Hell or High Water. His performance as Rex Hanson in Horrible Bosses 2 also showed that he can be a slimy and unlikable villain. Jumble them all together, and you have the perfect Tommy Vercetti.
