A Reddit user's Animal Crossing: New Horizons design surprised many players, as it featured three characters they had never seen before. The user's build was made utilizing the Animal Crossing DLC Happy Home Paradise, which was released for the game in November of 2021. The simulation game has become one of the most popular Nintendo games of all time since its release in 2020, selling over 32 million copies worldwide.
Since the start of the Animal Crossing series, there have been distinct differences between each iteration. While each title has kept the same core gameplay, where players live in a town of anthropomorphic animals while catching creatures and earning bells, some features have been changed or removed in subsequent installments. Before New Horizons, each Animal Crossing game included some version of a post office with three pelican staff members: Pete, who delivers the mail, and sisters Pelly and Phyllis who run the day and night shifts behind the counter. Although no longer in the game, these characters can be accessed using Animal Crossing amiibo cards.
Reddit user AceJocelynn shared their incredible Happy Home Paradise build of a post office this week, much to some players' confusion. The user included the three iconic postal workers in their design, which many players had never seen before. Many asked about where they can find the pelicans in New Horizons, assuming it to be a character they had simply never encountered. The build is wonderfully detailed, including not only the post office's main room but a break room and outdoor shipping area complete with a mail truck as well. Custom patterns are used brilliantly throughout, with the user including patterns like the US Postal Service logo and an Amazon-style package design.

For many players, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is their first experience with the series. Before New Horizons exploded in popularity during the beginning of the pandemic, the Animal Crossing games were considered somewhat more niche titles with a limited but devoted following. Many long-time fans of the series, even those who love New Horizons, have expressed disappointment about elements from previous titles that were not included in the newest game. While New Horizons has many unique details of its own, charming characters like Pete, Pelly, and Phyllis are missed by many.
The Animal Crossing series is undoubtedly one of the most unique franchises in gaming, with quirky characters, interesting items, and distinct gameplay that have made it beloved by so many players. Although some die-hard Animal Crossing fans may be disappointed in some missing aspects of New Horizons, the game has been a great introduction for many to the series. Some may even be inspired to pick up an older Animal Crossing title after learning about the classic characters in previous games.
