There have been several rumors swirling around the internet about unannounced expansions for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. One of those rumors about a project called "Meteor" may refer to DLC for the game that's already released.

In April 2021, a leaker on 4chan claimed to have uncovered details behind a new piece of Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC called Meteor. The DLC would supposedly take Eivor to Iceland and focus heavily on Nordic mythology. Unsurprisingly, meteors were supposed to play a significant part in the DLC, though how was not specified. The leaker claimed the DLC would release in early 2022 and that it would be announced at E3 2021. E3 has come and gone, and no Meteor DLC was officially announced, but that doesn't mean the leak was entirely wrong.

The Meteor rumors may have been referring to the recently released Mastery Challenge update for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Officially announced the day before Ubisoft's E3 presentation, Mastery Challenge is a new update that has players going through trials to prove their skills at melee combat, ranged combat, and stealth. Most importantly, however, the update opens with a meteor crashing outside of Eivor's village of Ravensthorpe. Such an obvious correlation between the supposed title of the rumored DLC and an actual meteor happening in the game, combined with the fact that the update was announced the weekend of E3, could indicate Meteor wasn't a story expansion, but a smaller piece of content for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Will Assassin's Creed Valhalla Meteor be Set in Muspelheim?

There's still a chance Meteor could be the name of an upcoming piece of DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. A recent report from International Business Times states that a French YouTube creator named Jonathan claims to have uncovered file names for three expansions. The first were for already announced Wrath of Druids and Siege of Paris, while the third was entitled Meteor. Jonathan went on to claim the DLC would focus on Norse mythology and be set in Muspelheim or North Africa. At the end of Ubisoft's official E3 presentation, it did tease a fiery gate that would be key in unannounced content, reinforcing the above leaks and a data mine about Assassin's Creed Valhalla from May that suggested new DLC would take players to the Norse realm of fire, Muspelheim.

Whether or not the rumored Assassin's Creed Valhalla Meteor DLC was Mastery Challenge or a unannounced third expansion, there are clearly large updates in Assassin's Creed Valhalla's future. Between the popularity of the game and production delays caused by COVID, Ubisoft may have decided it made more sense to support a popular title instead of building a completely new game. With the E3 announcement that Ubisoft will be supporting Assassin's Creed Valhalla into its second year, new content for the game is not stopping any time soon.
